Discussion about
Any opinions about this neighborhood/street? We'll be moving to NYC in Mid-December and are considering a rental in this area. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
I like it...right near the kinsale tavern too
Thanks, marco_m, do you find noisy? I ask only because I notice that there are a couple of hospitals that are close by...I don't mind traffic noise as much as sirens wailing on a regular basis. Thanks, again/
Used to live on Madison and 96th. Nice neighborhood, but a long haul if you hang out downtown socially or work down there. Overall I loved it the area, esp. proximity to Central Park, but wanted to be closer to my office.
I don't care for the street at all. The "area" is fine, but the street sucks. It is a traffic nightmare at times. Double parking is ignored, the turning traffic at Park is crazy, The 2nd ave construction is a nightmare. 2 weeks ago it looked like it was cleaning up. But last week they simply moved the barricades to make it even worse. 3rd ave is my favorite. Every weekday from 3-5pm the police play trainee time and ticket 2-3 cars every light cycle for god knows what.
95th or one of the aves is much better.
Thanks, patient09 and pc123, your input has been extremely helpful, we're going to keep looking for other options.
bdm, which side? VERY big difference between being close to park vs. close to the water. lex to the park has some very nice spots, and its VERY, VERY different going the other way - you basically turn into the fdr entrance/exit.
And as folks have noted, being on 96th itself compounds the problem.
yes, where would you be on 96th? I worked over there about 3-4 years ago but haven't been back since. it seemed like a very safe area. if i recall correctly, as others have mentioned, its nicer the closer you are to the park.
somewhereelse, well, closer to 3rd, so it seems as if that's heading towards the less desirable direction, I didn't even know about the FDR, thanks for the heads up :)
Personally, if I were on 96th St, I would want to be as close to the park as possible. It gets "iffy" east of Park Avenue and north of 96th. From where are you moving? Every avenue has its problems... I lived on Park at 87th for a couple of years. I think that Park is an emergency route - lots of sirens during the night, but maybe that had to do with proximity to the hospital? Good luck.
