Discussion about Arris Lofts at 27-28 Thomson Avenue in Hunters Point
Can anyone share insight or experience on this building? It looks to be located in quiet area. But LIRR is passing behind the building. How noisy is it?

I've been in a few units facing the tracks and you really can't feel/hear them that much at all.
A/C units are noisy as heck though. I'd be more concerned with that noise than the train noise.
Bullish for LIC!!!!

Any word on how the many lawsuits were resolved?
For some reason, the LIRR trains honk their blaring horns when they either go in or out of the tunnel (I heard it's regulation to do so) right in front of Arris. You can hear this sound miles away. This is not your typical car honk. It's the horn from a locomotive's warning mechanism that tells you to gtfo! Unless they change the regulation, I'm sorry, but this noise will wake the dead.
There are suddenly a lot of apts for sale at the Arris: Anything to do with the lawsuit? Is the train horn really such a problem(how often does that happen?).
Thinking of buying here but reluctant because of these issues.
Thanks for anyone who could throw some light into this.
I live on the 2nd floor facing the tracks. It's true that the trains sometimes honk their horns, although they don't actually do it all the time. And it actually doesn't bother us at all. It's a much deeper tone than the ones cabs and regular cars produce on the street. The train side is probably not for everyone. If you're looking for a typical green acres backyard, it isn't for you, but if you appreciate the privacy that a large train yard in your backyard provides, then it's fantastic.
I live on the 8th floor. The train horn are really not that noticeable. Possibly perhaps because the windows on this side of the building are specialized. I found living in the East 50's and East 90's in Manhattan a heck of a lot louder than any train here.
Newbuyer2012, I think there was a dump of the remaining sponsor units at cheap prices the other year. Fortunately that phase is over and the sponsor are no longer running the board either. I personally love living at Arris and haven't had any problems with the building or my unit.
