Hi All, I'm about to rent this apartment: http://www.ccrny.com/rentals/319315 But I'm afraid that the windows in the bedroom and living room are too wide for an air conditioner? I'm not sure, though. Do you think I can fit a standard sized A/C into at least the living room window? I know I can cut some plywood to cover any gaps, but the window just seems so big. Thanks for any help, and I'm sorry this is such a random question. I'm embarrassed to be asking it. Too much reading, no practical life skills! :-) Z
are window units allowed? two of the windows in the first picture look um non-wide
Gcondo,
Do the windows look normal to you? I can't really tell, and I've always lived in Central Air, so I don't even own an air conditioner! If the windows look "non-wide," then I have nothing to worry about, right?
Thanks for clicking on the site and helping me out.
The pictures are very distorted to make the apt look bigger. Windows are normal.
All this just reminds me how real estate-hunting is similar to internet chat rooms or dating services.
All measurements have been, um, "augmented"
:-)
Thanks for helping me out
GORGEOUS bathroom! I'm actually a bit jealous. Looks so squeaky-clean! Too bad about the lack of a kitchen.
Anyway ...
There should be absolutely no problem installing an air conditioner in those windows. All window units come with these "accordion" expandable sides to fill the gaps:

However, you can insist they take those accordion sides off and instead fill the gaps on either side with plexiglass for a nice finished look.
In instances where your window is to large for your air conditioner, speak to AIR CONDITIONER NEW YORK (http://www.airconditionernewyork.com) about installing plexiglass with your window air conditioner. Many of our customers like plexiglass installations because it adds to the visual presentation... or looks a lot less ugly than a standard installation.
Check out this video on our plexiglass installations.
