Discussion about
This is actually a fairly brilliant (and much much cheaper) variation on my idea to extend to V train over the East River to Williamsburg. Now, the MTA is proposing to take the V along the M route, which would provide a direct route to Soho, the village, midtown, and the UES. I presume that would alleviate a fair amount of traffic on the L, which is an added bonus. Yet another train in Williamsburg for NYCMatt to ignore?

will students still travel for free? or that's really over... didn't see anything new regarding the end of the student passes.
Are there any websites that have a map of exactly what is proposed?
minocqua, this is a map of the change for the V:

I didn't know that tracks exist to switch off between the IND and the BMT, but that is indeed a brilliant service upgrade. I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner, and (being too lazy to read any of the articles you linked to) wonder if that service used to operate.
alan, amusingly, the map states that the switch was once used by K/KK trains (if ever a hyphen was important!).
What you got yourself there is a virgule, not a hyphen. But yeah.
There's a nicer map of the proposed new V route here:

"will students still travel for free?"
Why should students travel for free?
"Why should students travel for free?"
The same reason they go to school for free. Are you going to invite someone for lunch but make them pay for the silverware?
"Are you going to invite someone for lunch but make them pay for the silverware?"
No.
But I AM going to pay them a cover charge.
"Students" are responsible for the majority of subway "incidents" between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 pm, and they're also responsible for the city's need to pay for extra cops on patrol in the subways during those hours.
Thanks! So it runs through south Williamsburg?
Matt, we'll just have to agree to disagree - I find your positions to be so overtly selfish, and your "evidence" to be so flimsy, I'm not sure it's worth the continued discussion.
This would certainly make the rush hour commute a lot suckier for a lot of people in Brooklyn. parts of Brooklyn where people complain for a living about every little thing anyway so it'd be interesting to see if this actually happens.
Whatever you say, BJ.
kimerama, maybe they exist on a higher plane of awareness.
minocqua, the V will just replace the M along Broadway (the dividing line between southside WB and south WB - confusing, I know) and that spur it takes up into Queens after Myrtle Ave.
Yeah, bjw2103, why don't you just click on the link Matt provided to support his claim? Jeez.
alan, I did, but only found photos of Ayn Rand. I guess I should know better.
