Can you guys help me out and list some ultra-luxury rentals on the Upper East or Upper West Side? Looking for condo-quality finishes and full service amenities, but no hotel services. Any ideas?
Closest is probably any of the various Related Rentals building. Go to relatedrentals.com. Also try Glenwood buildings. I can't think of any rental buildings that are more high-end. If that isn't nice enough, you could try renting from an individual who owns an apartment in a high-end condo. The trump/extell buildings on riverside blvd on the UWS are one example off the top of my head (240, 220, 120, 100 and 80 riverside blvd. 200 riverside blvd isn't any nicer than related buildings but is condo; 160 and 140 riverside blvd are rental buildings but also no nicer than related buildings).
> I can't think of any rental buildings that are more high-end.
Chelsea Landmark... and someone mentioned the Setai.
there are some all-rental higher-level apartment buildings on the UES that aren't of the glenwood/related variety. here's one example, a pre-war rental building.

For the UWS, I can't think of anything more high end than the Grand Tier (a Glenwood building).
What is the highest level Related on the UES?
one carnegie hill is the newest, but it's on 96th street. the strathmore has some large apartments with a lot of light.
i had forgotten. there are also some sponsor rentals at the lucida.

The Langham is nice, if you want three or four bedrooms: http://streeteasy.com/nyc/building/135-central-park-west-manhattan
I lived at the Grand Tier, a Glenwood building. It is truly nice but pricey. Also, 200 West 72nd just opened and a new rental building is coming at 67 and Amsterdam. It looks pretty nice from the outside and great location.
If I had to pick a rental building it would be the Grand Tier, but I don't think the current crop of rental buildings uptown are as nicely finished as the new condos, so I would certainly do a sublet. My last high-end rental clients ended up subletting in a brownstone, but they didn't need a doorman.

No such thing as an ultra luxury rental. Of course "luxury" on a rental seems to be plastered on rentals along the Grand Central Parkway or anywhere that isn't a 4 story walkup. But if Glenwood and Related are your idea of comparable to top condos and coops, you are kidding yourself.
If you want a high lifestyle, you buy.
If you are stevejhx who is opposed to being able to afford a marble bathroom like most normal people actually want, then you rent in Times Square and let your cats out on to the balcony.
Rental lemings.
i guess you didn't pull up the langham.
" Also, 200 West 72nd just opened and a new rental building is coming at 67 and Amsterdam"
Yeah, at a busy loud corner with buses spewing black soot
or at a new location on the Upper West Side, not quite near Lincoln Center, not near Central Park, not near Riverside Park, near the projects ... the worst of it all. Ultra luxe!
"there are also some sponsor rentals at the lucida."
On lower floors, and the chance to feel like second class citizens in a building otherwise of owners.
"one carnegie hill is the newest, but it's on 96th street"
Exactly, it's on 96th Street.
"i guess you didn't pull up the langham."
Oh, let me look at the current availabilities there.
Oops
dabulls, so the current renters at the langham are losers?
oops.
luxury rental is an oxymoron.. if you really wanna rent the best is to find a quaint owner's residence and find an owner who's renting his place out..
being in an owner occupied building vs. a rental makes a WORLD of difference in terms of calling it your new home (for the next XX months)
"dabulls, so the current renters at the langham are losers?"
They'll be moving soon to buy, like anyone who wants to LIVE in NY and has money to do so. But not soon enough for the poster who wants to move there, because there are NO availabilities. Nice to give one example where there are no availabilities.
Go back to Wisconsin.
i guess you also didn't see the pre-war prime location building i posted above. although it looks as though that unit has already rented.
go back to Hartford.
Great, another one genius, a second listing that has already rented. So, anything CURRENT you can show? Dimwit. What is your apartment number at the Langham?
when i posted it it was available. i'm happy to help anyone who is looking for a home, but damned if i'll run around looking for rentals just because you're a jerk and you're wrong.
which overpriced building did you purchase in at the height of the market?
Excuses galore. Quite nice. You can't find a single example to support your position.
As far as my family's position, we are quite well situated in a great place, for the long term before today and for the long term in the future.
Did you just move here from Wisconsin and the prices shocked your sensibilities? OMG, I can get so much more for my money back in Madison. There's no place like home. There's no place like home Toto.
wow DaBulls - bitter much?
Nope, I have a home to go to. What do you have?
when the argument is weak, rely on personal insults. thanks for caring about my sensibilities, but having lived here for almost twenty years i'm not easily shocked.
oh, and of course i could find some. i did. your argument was that luxury rentals don't exist. and i quote "no such thing as an ultra-luxury rental." but no use arguing with someone who has the logic skills of a five-year-old.
did you get bit by a rabid dog? i have this vision of you frothing at the mouth.

I guess if you want the ladies to like ya, you should model yourself after inonada not after dabulls. I think inonada knows alot.
keep dreaming
just following your lead. btw, you don't know me. i was expressing concern for your condition. if treatment is available, you should seek it.
oh, and nice attempt to redirect away from the inaccuracy of your comments.
Keep it up. Show one single rental that is available. One single one. Or you won't, "but damned if i'll run around looking for rentals just because you're a jerk and you're wrong" Or you can't.
"i was expressing concern for your condition. if treatment is available, you should seek it."
Are you a medical doctor, a shrink, or a 911 operator?
Or a rental expert who can't find one example.
By the way, about ready to do what? You seem to get along with a poster who is a dreamer and someone who knows "nada". What are you about ready to do?
Buy?
or move to another rental?
Hahaha
keep it up. you're doing fine.
Not one single example?
What exactly are you about ready to do?
"As far as my family's position, we are quite well situated in a great place, for the long term before today and for the long term in the future."
No worries then: it's your papa that paid too much, not you. You get to collect the float. So be happy. Collect your rent. And most importantly, don't forget to pay your banker. He really, really needs it.
Collect my rent? Pay my banker? I have no rent to collect or banker to pay. What are you even talking about?
keep going, dabulls. lather, rinse, repeat.
What are you about ready to do?
Are you about ready to provide me with a single example?
you'll get it down in no time. keep going. practice makes perfect.
What are you about ready to do?
"Collect my rent? Pay my banker? I have no rent to collect or banker to pay. What are you even talking about?"
I thought you were a landlord. You know, "Pay me, pay me. Yes Mister Landlord, the heat too low." It was only 10 minutes ago.
So what, you own just your own place and you paid cash for it rather than get a mortgage? Hardly a bullish thing to do, given that you could be leveraging your position using other people's money.
you're so clever. you can do better than that.
What are you about ready to do? Are you about ready to show me an example?
"I thought you were a landlord. You know, "Pay me, pay me. Yes Mister Landlord, the heat too low." It was only 10 minutes ago."
So you think I'm a landlord telling people to buy. Does that make any sense? Or you don't know anything?
"As far as my family's position, we are quite well situated in a great place, for the long term before today and for the long term in the future."
So how much did you lose? 20% of your equity? 50%?
(you certainly seemed peeved about something)
I haven't and am not planning on selling my home. How can I lose any of my equity?
dabulls, i had high hopes for you. but you have shown yourself to be a person of neither wit nor logical argument. and so, farewell.
farewell? Are you about to leave?
Before you can provide one single example?
btw, corcoran alone has 50 rentals in the $20k and above range.
and dabulls keeps ignoring the 100% rental high end buildings noted.
Well congratulations somewhereelse. How come aboutready couldn't do that? You are miles ahead of her. Maybe she should go back to Wisconsin where she can get more for her dollar. Nice white picket fence, a dog, couple of rug rats.
So do you have a mortgage or no mortgage? I.e., do you pay a banker interest, or is your stance not so bullish after all?
How come you couldn't do that?
Or, better yet, why didn't you do that before you claimed the opposite?
ALWAYS rent from a condo-owned building, never a rental building. ALWAYS, unless you're a slightly obese, shopworn college-grad.
I'm not sure I agree ss400k, there are some good buildings out there like the Grand Tier by Glenwood, some of the Related buildings, etc.
But, ultra luxury, what $$ amount are we talking about? There's those apartments at the Superior Ink going for $25K and up per month!
Dabulls - spoken like a true spunky!
"If you are stevejhx who is opposed to being able to afford a marble bathroom"
I've had marble bathrooms before. Shit still stinks.
"like most normal people actually want"
Strange definition of "normal" - marble stains.
"then you rent in Times Square"
Don't know - not there.
"and let your cats out on to the balcony."
They don't like the balconIES. That The Link across the street doesn't have for 4x the cost.
HAHAHAHA!
Spoken like a true spunky? What does that mean?
"I've had marble bathrooms before. Shit still stinks."
Classy. Very rental speak.
Will aboutready be posting one single example of a rental that meets this "ultra luxury" criteria?
I mean, one example that is actually available as opposed to theoretical apartments that aren't available.
http://streeteasy.com/nyc/rental/575773-rental-151-east-85th-street-upper-east-side-new-york
reading isn't your long suit, is it?
I guess you are right, I didn't read, "but damned if i'll run around looking for rentals just because you're a jerk and you're wrong."
Where exactly is it that you live with your family? Temporary trailer park?
There certainly are SOME...here are just doorman units with in-unit W/D, in-house gym, more than two baths, for over $10,000 a month on the UES or UWS. 26 for that price plus 11 more that are $8-10k.
http://streeteasy.com/nyc/rentals/nyc/rental_type:frbo,brokernofee,brokerfee|price:8000-|area:139,135|baths%3E=2|amenities:gym,doorman,washer_dryer
There are 79 like this island wide:
http://streeteasy.com/nyc/rentals/manhattan/rental_type:frbo,brokernofee,brokerfee|price:8000-|baths%3E=2|amenities:gym,doorman,washer_dryer
51 if I subtract gym but add private outdoor space:
http://streeteasy.com/nyc/rentals/manhattan/rental_type:frbo,brokernofee,brokerfee|price:8000-|baths%3E=2|amenities:private_outdoor,doorman,washer_dryer
Madison is pretty nice.
This is the strangest dialogue I have ever read. You folks are way off topic and just trading insults. Back to the high-end rentals, people!
The Solow Properties - especially the townhouses in Lenox Hill - are high end. http://solowresidential.com/
As are Urbana's (Spitzer's) properties - 800 and 985 Fifth (better locations if you're looking for ultra-high end, IMO).

200 West 67th St and 200 West 72nd St for UWS. Brand new buildings top of the line finishes.
265 East 66th St, although older, is still a good choice for UES
