Discussion about
Are there any good, safe places to run in the neighborhood after dark? Anyone have any favorites? The parks are not an option for me.

I used to run up and down CPW at night (eerily enough I remember doing this on the perfect fall night of 9/10/01). Running from wherever you are up to 100th & CPW is pretty safe, and then down to 60th and back. 3 miles. If you want to be ultra-safe, go up to just 96th. I used to go up to 103rd/104th. Bldg side and not park side, of course. Or you could go up to the Armory track up by 140th & Bway (never done this myself).

I also feel pretty safe on RSD (running by the building side) between 72nd & 110th.

I thought every twenty short blocks was approximately a mile? So it would be 2 miles. Gmaps confirms.

i have a stationary bike in my living room, 16 minutes of HELL HIGH INTENSITY cardio is so much more effective than 45 mins to 1 hour of normal/speed jogging..

half of midtown west won't lie to these abs.

I bought a new bike and have biking 4 miles to work and back every day. It feels great. Right up 1st ave at 6am. Additional benefit is saving a few bucks on bus fare.

I highly recommend the Garmin FR60 for measuring distance when running.

Buddy up and run the lower loop in central park. Know you said parks are not an option, but avoiding cars can't be better.

RSer: you are obviously not a busy parent. Buddying up would be great but requires too much co-ordination & time. Much more efficient to squeeze a 4mi run on the streets whenever you have a bit of time after the kids go to bed.

I ran on the park side of CPW but didn't like the comments from people on the benches after dark. Didn't feel safe.
