We have a Schiffman mattress from Bloomingdales, love it. The better line, not their mass line. I know their showroom has various styles from rock hard to fluffy pillow top.

I'm very happy with my Schiffman mattress. Bought it there too, but waited for a sale. Helps to wait for sale. Even better if you know someone there and can take advantage of Employee discount.

Yes, wait for a sale. More than 40% off.

Bought a Shiffman at Stickley Furniture on 25th street. They sell only the premium line and they regulary discount and give an additional discount if you pay cash. Their service is exemplary and the bed....well--it is amazing! Well worth the money.

Presidents? LOL That's a funny marketing pitch. I bought a Sealy Posturepedic from Sleepy's for $500 negotiated. Topped it with a 100% wool mattress pad mail order from The Company Store for $200. The combo is divinely comfortable and affordable. Why pay a mattress company for a pillowtop? They charge five times as much. Plus to freshen the bed, you just replace the mattress pad after 10 or 15 years. For the bed frame, I paid $300 to Crate & Barrel. Next to some matching german floor lamps, the bed frame doesn't look so cheap.

RS--I pictured him on a bed of hot coals!! NYCMatt--maybe but I think it may be limited to beds-- I am not a big fan of formica nor the 'warm' colors you so love!!

i bought a new mattress from Macys when I moved last year...One of the common brands (probably Sealy's, I forget), but a high end line. It is fine, but I wish I had bought a Westin "Heavenly" mattress (http://www.westin-hotelsathome.com/) instead - I just couldn't imagine sleeping on an air mattress for the 6 or so weeks it took to get it delivered.

Ethan Allen bed frame, also bought with a promotional offer.

Shiftman is the way to go! Purchased at Stickley. I think their sales are Aug & Feb? Worth every penny.

I have a memory foam mattress, "firm," and frame, both from Room & Board. Best mattress I have ever had, and the frame is very solid and well-made.

Temperpedic is the best one I have ever owned.
Decide on the model you want and sit by the phone and call local places for the best price and purchase on the phone. You will save $100-200. It really works!. Just don't show up in person...tell them your very busy and play one off the other. Mattress business is slow.

Flobed.com. They have top notch latex, memory foam and combination mattresses. Very unique in that you design your own mattress by combining different firmness for each of the three layers (and a 90 day exchange program to adjust the firmness to make sure you get it right). You also design each half of the matress for each sleeper. A 5'5" 140 pound woman and a 6'0" 210 pound man are very unlikely to enjoy the same firmness so it allows you to customize for each person's body and preferences.

So good I have two of their mattresses. And first rate customer service to boot.

It's an UWS store, but I would go to Long's on West 72nd Street. Very very good service.

Don't bother.

Tempurpedic standardized prices, its in their contracts now. Go in a to whatever sleepys or rockaway is near you and ask for some freebies thrown in. The price won't change.
