We had a great time in Williamsburg visiting waterfront condos and making the rounds through the stores and restaurants. It's been 5 months since we last visited and it seems more vibrant than ever. We had a great time in Williamsburg visiting waterfront condos and making the rounds through the stores and restaurants. It's been 5 months since we last visited and it seems more vibrant than ever. Some of the rusting hulks have now been finished. Some are still rusting hulks. Surprisingly new developments are still popping up especially on N. 3rd St from Kent to Bedford. Kent Ave is now one way with bicycle lanes and parking, effectively making it a one lane road. There is heavy bike traffic and cars travel more slowly. This, along with the parked cars, gives Kent Ave a less desolate highway feel. Our restaurant tour was wonderful: tacos in La Superior, fancy in Dressler, brunch at Aurora's; but surprisingly our most enjoyable meal was at Santorini's Grill, hands down the best Greek food I've ever had. Our condo tour was of 80 and 58 Met, Northside Piers, and the Edge. This was our 4th visit for Northside Piers but our first for the Edge and 80/58 Met. We were impressed by all. Quality seems comparable in all 3. All are openly inviting offers on "flexible" pricing. Recent price drops have brought these developments into play for our condo plans. I'll update the current status of each building soon. It's been 3 years since we first visited Williamsburg. We are more committed than ever to this neighborhood. [less]
spam.
Matthew is impressed by all things retro, such as the remarkable durability of laminate countertops, PEZ dispensers, and spam.
I too like Williamsburg and share in your enthusiasm for the neighborhood. Maybe someday we'll give up the UWS when the kid leaves and follow in the footsteps of loftydreams. Wonder what it'll be like in 15 years. Right now it sorta has the look that one good fire could wipe the whole place out.
nyc matt is simply reminding everybody what his favorite food option is in washington heights
Glad you enjoyed your weekend there, I guess not everyone thinks williamsburg is "over",
I can tell you that 80 met is a great bldg, one thing you may not appreciate on a casual stroll through the bldg is the staff. They are very professional, courteous and attentive. The bldg is vey well kept, and having a live-in resident manager seems to ensure that everything that needs to get done does. After experiencing this, I understand why the monthlies are higher than bldgs that offer none of these services.
LookPied, I thought you were in contract at 90 North 5th? Either way, glad you're enjoying the neighborhood and that NYCMatt is as clueless as ever.
We just cancelled the contract. They did not reach 50% by our deadline.
LookPied, did you get a chance to check our the east river state park? There was a free concert over the weekend. Not really into the bands that were playing but just hanging out, eating, drinking, and watching people play dodge ball against the NYC backdrop was quite enjoyable.
We were there, right at 2PM as the line was about to be let into the concert. There was a section of the park that was open to non-concert goers. So, we didn't have to wait in line to check the park out. We admired the wildflowers among the concrete slab. Truly an urban park(which we love!).
"I guess not everyone thinks williamsburg is "over"
It never "started."
