Discussion about
I am in the process of finding a mortgage for a new condo in NYC. Having been a long time customer of Citibank, can you recommend any excellent Citibank mortgage loan officers? Thanks again:)!

What are the benefits of recommending a loan officer?

Bill Towne - email: harold.w.towne@citi.com

I too am a longtime customer of Citi and decided to use them for my mortgage. If I had it to do over again, I would go elsewhere. It took them FOREVER (over two months) to clear me for closing, despite my being a very qualified buyer. I thought that things would be more efficient because I was already a Citi customer, but no such luck.
Bill was great, but once the loan was passed on to the loan processors it felt like I was surrounded by incompetence. A friend of mine who recently bought used Chase and she had far less aggravation.

Given toaday's circumstances and the flakiness of bank lending, why on earth would you commit to one bank to give an offer.
Sheeeeeeet Citi might sell off your mortgage in 90 days anyway and then guess what, your no longer a CIti mortgage.

I would at the very least enlist two banks. Keep them each honest with rates and fees. Chances are one will crap out come deal time anyway.

My personal favorite is having a mortgage broker and your favorite bank competing. You tell the broker, "this is my bank, I owe it to them to give my mortgage a shot. You have at your disposal everything else and every other bank to get me my loan." He'll go for it.
To your bank, "you are my bank of preference, but I have an aggresive lender who wants my business, i have to listen to them too."
