Discussion about
Did anyone go to open houses this past weekend? What was the turnout like? There certainly were a lot of apartment open houses, but I am wondering if buyers are out in flocks or not yet.

My wife and I stopped by a few OH's on our way to the U.S. Open today. The turnout seemed a little light at each based on the sign in sheet. Also, at each of three we were the only one in the apartment at the time we were there. However, we only stopped by three so others may have been more active.

I went to two open houses in Harlem over the weekend and there was decent traffic...I was actually surprised.

I hosted two open houses and the traffic was very good, especially for two lofts that have been on the market for some time. I didn't get 5 offers, but I was pleased to see that there are serious people looking, even with opening football Sunday and the US Open final.

Just to give some perspective, I started looking for a place around this time last year and OH's were empty..then started picking up by the end of the month/after the Jewish holidays.

I've heard from a friend who's a RE agent that September is known to be slow.

Oh, so now *September* is supposed to be slow, too. Does your friend's name rhyme with "Petraeus"?

Ok, enough with the sarcasm. Sept can be slow because overflow from the summer, kids are getting off to school and families are preparing for the high holidays. My friend wasn't making excuses, just confirming a trend he's seen having been in the industry for years.

My point is, recent slow OH activity may not nec. indicate that the bottom is falling out...

I'll eat the siding off a Greenpoint house when I hear a broker say that traffic was light at their own open house.

Broker I know had 4 OH last weekend (2 BKLYN / 2 MAN). Manhattan ones were totally dead; the brooklyn ones (Park Slope) were packed. Go figure . . .

what you are all talking about is moot....open houses can be packed if priced right, empty if people are being unrealistic. Wihtout knowing these details, whats the point. Secondly, yourname here is totally right, if brokers are posting on this site, or owners for that matter, are they going to admit that things are slow...come on genious'assess
