I live on East 11th Street directly across the garden from this building, and I can tell you it's made my life hell for months. The owners are using non-union Mexican and Indian or Pakistani labor, working 6 days a week starting at 7:30 in the morning weekdays, 8 on Saturdays, and a couple of times when they started up the table saw (which is set up outside so the whining reverbs off nicely the surrounding buildings) at 9 PM, thinking to get in some evening work, I've had to lean out the window and threaten to call the cops. The workmen sleep in the building, and on several occasions they've gotten into lengthy and heated (i.e. loud) nighttime discussions which, since there are no windows yet in the back of the building, are easily heard in my bedroom while I am trying to sleep. Oh, 9th precinct! They have multiple radios playing different kinds of music at top volume all day long, yell to each other between the two buildings, and all in all have turned my summer into a nightmare of noise, construction dust and fruitless calls to 311. This project has been run in a way that is utterly disrespectful to, and not giving a damn about, its neighbors, and is just another example of developer arrogance. [less]
non-union is redundant....no?
Anyway...are you on higher ground? Nothing hurts like a potted petunia landing on your head....just sayin :)
There's always 311. Unusual to have a permit allowing work after 9 pm. If enough people complain the city can shut them down.
