Discussion about
Looking to buy a pied a terre in NYC. Also want to use it for ocassional weekday use given that both of us sometimes work late in the city... We really like the NYU student vibe and have liked lofts in Noho. Also like gramercy for its stability and conventional 1BRs. Want to help me make a decision?
Having lived amongst the NYU student vibe for 7 years, I will say that it's fun for a while but gets old. Gramercy is more staid but much more livable (read: quiet, no walking outside in the morning to find that some drunk students puked on your doorstep). Depending on how often you intend to use the apartment, that may not be a factor for you.
NoHo is certainly hipper, so if stumbling home from bars is more important, it would probably be the better choice.
Gramercy is boring. Assume you have a place in the burbs for peace and quiet. Village/noho are great. If you like small restaurants, nothing beats proximity to East Village.
How about loft vs. conventional 1BR...Also looking at resale value...What works better?
1br is too small for a loft. Most real lofts are at least 1500 fq foor or over but you may find Studio loft in some buildings with high ceiling with sleep area. 77 bleecker, 250 mercer. High Maintenance warning!!
> Gramercy is boring
But Gramercy is in the middle of a ton of other neighborhoods. THere is something to having a nice quiet block, and then being blocks from Flatiron, Chelsea, Village, NoMad, etc.
And I certainly don't want to be right near NYU...
how is a high floor on the victoria on 7 E 14th street? Not gramercy, not NYU...Is it resellable though?
If you like the white brick buildings. My wife says they look like public toilets in China.
