MOST versions of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta are capable of inducing a sort of reverse sticker shock, since they now cost some $1,700 to $2,300 less than the cars they replaced. In another, rear disc brakes, once standard on all Jettas, have been replaced by cheaper drum brakes on some versions. The independent rear suspension is gone, replaced on all but one model by a less expensive torsion-beam design. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/26/automobiles/autoreviews/26volkswagen-jetta.html?_r=1&ref=automobiles [less]
that's not deflation, that's de-contenting. It costs less, but you get less.
Don't read too much into it. This is the result of VWAG allowing more input from VWNA. With a goal of selling 140k units per year, they needed to bring the price and content down for the average American shopper, who equates size with value. The decontenting won't be noticed by 99% of car shoppers, while the entry level price surely will. I thought I was back on the car forums I normally frequent for a second. How are new home sales going?

check this out, my reading it that Wall Street and economists at large decided that the recovery is here. it's up to bloomberg's journalist to go and find it.... is the home sector recovering??? they were asking last week.... NONONON... is it manufacturing then!?
