Discussion about
anyone have an experience with Jennifer sofas? is their delivery estimate of 4-6 weeks for special order accurate?

No idea how they feel once purchased, but I was very unimpressed in their store -- thought the sofas were poor quality, that the staff wasn't willing to help me find what I wanted, and that I could do better for the same price elsewhere. After browsing a few stores, if I would have bought, I would have purchased from one of the following: (1) Bob's (E 117th and 1st), not the highest quality, but comfortable and very cheap prices, (2) Macy's, decent selection, decent quality, and mid-level prices, (3) Jensen-Lewis (W 15th and 7th Ave), very high quality, but high prices to match. Again, all of this is only from looking in the store and trying out different sofas.

got them cause they are very cheap and easy to clean. the leather is not the best, ie: not cured with veg tannins, and that actually makes it the best when it comes to easy cleaning. this is exactly what the furniture you have when having a toddler should be: cheap, easy to clean, not a big deal if your toddler breaks it.

a few wipes after my toddler spills something and they end up looking as new. it's been a year or so that we have them with no regrets.

also, we bought during the worst of the crisis (furniture companies keep on hurting though), so they were doing a promotion: 4 pieces for the price of 2.

i'd say if you don't have the kiddo issue and want it to last forever, time it to when the best prices come along (no idea when is that during the year) and buy the best you can afford.

I have kids and they busted my Jennifer Leather couch within a week. It's made very cheaply, them again, it's cheap. I agree, if you have kids, take a chance, if not go with something better.

Did the Jennifer sofa thing when I first moved to New York. I'd upgraded from a futon. It's a New York City rite of passage. But it's certainly not grown-up furniture. You get what you pay for.

notadmin: The best time of year for furniture buying used to be the January sales. Like the "January white sales". November started to be a good sale time(around Nov.,2008 when everything was on sale).

These days, you can get great home furnishings when stores go out of business. M. Vallency went out of biz recently, and those overpriced sofas and other furnishings were marked waaay down.
Now, in that location is a big Duane Reade that is trying to look upscale.

Einstein Moojmy is going out of biz on East 56th street, if you need rugs. The sales staff hang out near the door and put on a huge smile if you glance in their direction while walking by there.
Final weeks -- everything must go!

ddevito: Bloomingdales has good quality at high prices.
But the recent report of them finding "Just one bedbug" in the store would make me go elsewhere even at sale time.

thanks for responses! well too late for me. i special ordered a very firm queen sleeper. beautiful fabric and sleek style. don't have the toddler issue, and will mostly use on weekends only (pied d'tier)
it was just over $1k so not sure if that is cheap or median. anyway for light use, i hope it will be fine. as i said it felt firm in the store, which is what we like. i guess in a couple of years we can always change it out. but for right now we are anxious to get our couch! they said 4-6 weeks, but it's made in America so it may be in quicker!

Anyone buy from Resource Furniture before? They have the best space saving furniture money can buy - I'm very curious how much the damage is.

American leather provides the bed to many furniture manufactures to create sleeper sofa's...They are without question the best sleeper couches out there...I bought mine a scott jordan, but they are available many other places like room and board and a bunch or others...

Restoration Hardware, Ethan AlLen and Bloomingdale's are my favorite. Have bought furniture at all three (the sofa is from RH), so far very happy.

FYI Jennifers Inc. is in bankruptcy, so don't bother with the warrenty.

Bob's has a store in the East harlem mall. That and JC are far and away the cheapest.

Well- I had it for two years- i think it's called the Apollo, and it cost me all together about $ 3000- I chose the simples basic model, white- Just blends in with the wall, almost, Literally no one notices it and it's like having an extra room when it's up! I think they guaranteed it for 30 years of continuous use, and i get a lot of compliments on it- It start like "but where is the bedroom"? no one really can figure out that that small closet can be the beds. I didn't negotiate the price at all but i think that they quoted me like like $ 900 for the installation and i complained so it ended up costing me $ 400- I tried to order it directly from the factory in Italy and they directed me to Resources, so i had to get it there....But in any case I love my Apollo so much to the point that i will definitively carry it to my future hopefully bigger apartment as the guest bed!

jason: I read somewhere that Jennifers is in bankruptcy. Those stores will be having big sales soon.

That rug store had a big truck from an online carpet co. pulled up outside it yesterday. They loaded a lot of rugs of all sizes in and then drove off. Today, there is still a good amount of stock left over in the store. That's where the best deals on good quality rugs can be found.

A couple of years ago, if that store was closing there would have been people in there buying. Now, it's like they can't give those rugs away.

I find the Jennifer sofa frames are weak, balsa wood? Not good for kids jumping on it. When mine went, in short time, I had propped books under the back against the wall and gave the illusion of a solid sofa. Never again.

They are junk -- always have been and remain so. They also don't have good customer service once you realize they're junk. But some people will some buy them anyway.

I am very surprised to learn that the company is in bankruptcy. I remember all the principals when they started the company almost 40 years ago.
