Discussion about
I am looking to install soundproofing windows. Looking for input as to which of these 3 companies - Cityproof, CitiQuiet or Soundproofwindows - does the best job. Would especially love to hear from anyone who compared the 3 before purchase but any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
I hired a professional sound guy on a conuslting basis and he said CityProof was the best (so I am going with them). Of course he could be getting a kick back but I doubt it - he himself came highly recommended from a friend.
I also would like to know. I've looked at Cityproof and CitiQuiet, and CitiQuiet was much less expensive. Has anyone used them before? Thank you.
I have used Citiquiet on rentals that I own midtown west: amazing results.I went with 90% noise reduction. not cheap, but truly miraculous. once in place, all the noise is completetly blocked. A new tenant this week told me he had the best sleep for years, yet on the second floor of a very busy traffic street.
I bought a new place for myself this summer and have just ordered the same for all the bedrooms (they're big windows, so mucho dineiro).
It really changes my sleep.
I have no commercial or personal interest in the company (disclosure).
I don't know the other companies
Are the windows able to be used afterwords (i.e. opening/closing)?
Does thru the wall AC affect the soundproofing of these windows?
yes the window can be used (and also "flipped" for cleaning).
Thru the window (not wall, then there's no window) AC does not affect the soundproofing except whrn then AC is on (at which time the A/c is more noisy than anything else). these windows are truly effective.
well worth the not cheap price. they last forever and they consider it "capital improvement" which means no tax.
I have a thru the wall HVAC unit and noise will leak through. My Citi Quiet windows blocked some noise, but I can still hear noise because it's coming from the HVAC. I'm looking to see if Citi Proof can address this issue.
all ac leaks noise--thru wall or window unit
white noise of running ac can help, but much noisier withac installed
quietest is to use quiet window with small window ac unit, where ac unit is stored in basement for times of year where not needed
What about Skyline windows?
Any experience with them?
Just want to add my experience here: we recently had Citiproof windows installed and they work phenomenally well. The biggest surprise is the reduction in draft and dust in the apartment and the unintended consequence that our aparment is now overheated, even with the radiators to their minimum settings.
We had both Citiquiet and Citiproof bid the job. While Citiquiet was definitely cheaper (by about 25%), the sales guy didn't see as knowledgeable and he didn't really have a solution for our in-the-wall AC.
Citiproof custom builds a cabinet for the AC that blocks out the noise (during winter time).
I definitely recommend Citiproof over Citiquiet.
There are a number of manufacturers of triple pane passive House windows that will not only meet sound proofing specs but also provide thermal bridge free performance. This means no air penitration or thermal transfer through material, thus no noise penitration.
Essentially this means no heat or cold air will penitrate any portion of the glass or frame. Thus they meet interior comfort conditons that no other window type can match. All Passive House standard windows eliminate UV Solar radiation from South and West exposures.
Bottom line this is the best solution for noise, air pollution penitration and interior comfort, last all PH windows must meet specs so you're guaranteed noise reduction performance.
anyone have a rough estimate of what one of these windows + installation costs?
Bernie123 - how can i reach your professional sound guy please? we'd like to hire him to get his opinion on how best to soundproof our windows and also how best to stop sound from ricocheting around our loft ... something to absorb the sound. grateful for the referral. thanks
spyridonsophie,
I had Skyline install new windows, I am amazed how soundproof they are, all the buses and cars noises are gone.
His company is called "acoustilog" - you can google it. His name is Al if I recall. Heads up: he is not cheap.
Citiproof sure is the most expensive. My 31x67 windows would cost $1200 each! Citiquiet quoted them for around $850. I would love to know which one I should go with!! Also anyone who installed either, do they block out bass? I have neighbors playing loud banging music at all hours.
