Discussion about
A cockroach, not the other kind. Saw one this morning in front of 845 WEA. I know what the giant rat means, but what does a giant roach mean? If it is tenants complaining about an infestation then that is not going to help sales much. But it will most certainly get the building cleaned. Maybe that is the future of NYC? When tenants want a building cleaned they will put giant roaches out in front.
Oops, title should have been "Why a giant roach?"

Apparently it is escalation by the unions who think that people are getting immune to the giant rat routine.
I don't approve. I think it is more disgusting than a giant rat and I think it is unpleasant to the kids (similar arguments made in the article).
I think it's great: a creative, humorous way to draw attention to the cause.
845 West End is a condominium. Many condominiums get around hiring unionized doormen by claiming that the have security guards, no doormen. This is a sleazy end run. Notice that in the sales listings for the apartments "doorman" is listed as an amenity. It doesn't take a genius to tell the difference between a security guard and a doorman. If the union wants to embarrass the management and the tenant-owners for their sleazy refusal to hire union workers, more power to them.
Or Maybe it has to do with the conversion from rent stabilized to condos
Nothing can get converted from RS to condos. The RS tenants can stay until their deaths (and those of any descendant or grandchild that manages to get on the lease).
They do however have the option to buy their own apartment.
