Discussion about
for New Years Eve? any good recommendations for dinner & dancing? last year did an event that cost way too much and offered way too little. we're forty somethings just trying to find what the other forty somethings do. we have older kids so not worried about leaving the kids at home and sitters etc. have been looking on opentable, but hope to hear from anyone who has a good ezperience. thanks, happy holidays!

gr8 alan, its a date!
last year we did a newyearsplan.com joonbug type venue and it was an experience not to be repeated.
i prefer to just stay in one place and not hop around. i just wanted to see what everyone else is doing. we may also have a few other people join us that's why looking for restaurant recommendations that have after party/NYE entertainment.

movinup, we are 40-somethings as well who generally avoid new years out like the plague. last year we decided to try something more adult (although not inexpensive) and went to veritas. it didn't have entertainment, but it was remarkably festive, and much to my surprise the multiple-hour meal and mayhem was very enjoyable. the staff was really enchanting, and created a great environment.

you could try a russian restaurant in brighton beach. the ones that have many courses and shows. i've been to national, which is the big old one. the shows are great! and the food is very good and plentiful.

sounds a lot like the russian restaurant experience i had when i stumbled into one during the dead of summer. i think they do the same thing all year. somehow i wound up there at 4 pm in mid-august. it was awesome.

Some of us have been invited for dinner, dancing plus on W 67's new yacht. Of course you have to "unhide" him to be considered.

I'm spending New Years with w67 but it's not a yacht. It's more like a submarine. When you party with this guy you're going down! BTW, when he does buy that yacht you would be best to carefully consider the invitation because you know for a fact that the yacht is used, purchased at a distress sale and is being maintained and crewed by his mother-in-law.
Wife is too smart to get on that boat.

Best New Years' I've had have been at one bar all night where I already know the bartenders. I drink a little too much and wear the silly hats they pass out and get a kiss from the boyfriend at midnight. The key to having fun on New Years Eve is to have low expectations. That way you have a shot of being surprised on the upside. Not that I'd turn down an invite to w67th's submarine...

well i am still going to check out a restaurant with live music. i have a couple of places in mind. The problem will be deciding which place, but i guess i will just pull one out of a hat! last year, was a young party in the carlton hotel where we were promised appetizers, sophisticated crowd, and unltd non premium liquor. this year, a restaurant with open bar, dj and 4 course meal. next year W67's submarine for sure!!! i'll even help set up the darn thing!!! enjoy the season, everyone, happy holidays
