Discussion about
Any recommendations for a high-quality, traditional pedestal sink for my powder room? It has to be small--27"--and I would like it to be square and not too ornate. And if the price were reasonable that would be great too.

Not sure I see the point of buying a sink online, since they're heavy and not cheap to move around. Get thee to Chinatown and look at one or two plumbing supply stores.

( http://www.porcher-us.com/products/productDetail.aspx?id=4136 ) 28", though. In person it looks traditional but very clean and simple.

This is the exact same sink Waterworks sells in one of its collections. (Like, literally the same -- it comes in a Porcher box.) For a lot less $$.

Really don't understand the comment. The online stores offer free shipping right to your door. How is that any different than a chinatown store (other than that they will charge you for delivery)

Do those discount chinatown stores offer some sort of white glove delivery that I am unaware of?

Beware of buying bathroom stuff (tubs, sinks, toilets, faucets, etc.) online. I bought stuff for 3 bathrooms online from the cheapest online vendor, and it turns out that they were crooks. Charged my card right away, and the stuff just never arrived. Some vendors are good (irawoods).

As to why one would order online, it's often cheaper even with shipping included.

I've ordered a few times from efaucets, and always had a delightful experience.

I wish their products were better tagged for attributes, and their website better designed for searching. for example, sliders for "width", with 1/4-inch increments (or the equivalent in the Communist system of measure), would be very helpful for this search ... but Nooooo.

I bought this one from Home Depot to replace the original one in my prewar studio apartment. Inexpensive, free shipping and looks great--I'm very pleased.

Have recently done a reno. We've had a great experience with faucetdirect.com and CSN.com. Both prompt, courteous and helpful.

i really like the look of the porcher lutezia and it also comes in a 24" version. thanks! so funny that waterworks sells the exact same sink for more money--that company is a complete scam.

now that you guys have found my sink, any suggestion for a nice-but-reasonable faucet to go with it? something without extraneous details, but also not too modern/trendy?

I did a Barber Wilson 6" gooseneck faucet in nickel with that sink (the 28" version). Something like this, except the handles were a slightly different style (the "Regent"): http://www.qualitybath.com/product~name~Barber+Wilsons+6453~ID~113806~SKU~R6453%2F8SN.htm?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=0&utm_campaign=Barber+Wilsons

Looks great in a prewar bath. On the downside, there's no built-in sink stopper, so you have to use a manual stopper (e.g, get one you pop up by hand, or one on a chain). It's some $$, but you might be able to find a similar style for cheaper if you like the look.

Because, of course, sinks sold locally are much lighter than those sold online.

$1,100 is just money ... but who has time to turn separate hot & cold knobs?

Alanhart, I would advocate going in the opposite direction - go for the old fashioned totally separate faucets for hot and cold - it's the ultimate luxury.

Buster, that's what keeps Britain from achieving greatness ... No "mixer tap" or whatever, and the fact that they haven't discovered fixed rear wheels for "trolleys".
