"...Two-bedroom apartments specify occupancy by at least 'three persons, a brother and a sister who are both adults, or a parent or guardian with at least one child of any age.'..."

Is that quote from the HPD lottery rules or a Jeff Foxworthy routine?

Funny, West81st. I really can't make sense of it.

The only thing about that quote that strikes me as odd, in an age of non-traditional households, is that they don't allow two adult siblings of the same gender -- think aged spinster sisters -- or a grandma and her adult single child to share a 2BR.

Otherwise, it's set up to provide one bedroom to a couple or an individual parent/guardian, and one for the children [when they have 3BRs available, they require children of each gender to qualify for the third bedroom -- otherwise the family's only eligible for a 2BR with shared BR for the boys, or for the girls]. Two casual roommates, no go. I'm also surprised that they allow a household of three unrelated roommates, but the wording seems to allow it.

@alanhart

Adult siblings of the same gender are eligible for Affordable Housing programs. But, a "male," "female" pairing will be considered for the units with an additional bedroom. Parents are eligible with a "child of any age." Couples with children are also fine. Students/roommate situations? No go!

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I think Mitchell-Lama buildings have a universal no-pets policy...?

Once upon a time, yes. Now, no.

I know someone who won a spot on the waitlist in the lottery. It's for one of the buildings on 95th/96th street (he's not sure which) & Columbus.

My brother won a spot on the waitlist for the same building, 94th and Columbus. The lottery was last February. His log # was 57 but he doesnt know how long the wait will be. What happened to your friend. Was he offered an apt yet? or does he know how long the wait is going to be...
