Discussion about
We are considering buying for the first time but would want to add a third bathroom to the loft. Can anyone give us a rough estimate of how much it costs to add a bathroom (medium-high end) in Manhattan and how long it might take? Also, from those who have done it, how much of a headache in terms of being able to live there while the contractors are working... Thanks!

I'm really interested in this question too. Here are the details about my job: I want to make two bathrooms out of one by taking away some hallway nich space and a bigish closet which are both directly adjacent to the existing bathroom. We're on the 2nd floor of a morningside heights coop which was gut renovated three years ago. Medium finish, one bathroom with a tub, the other a shower.

The first step for both of you is to check with your building's management to see if "wet-over-dry" is permissible, and/or how it is defined.

The biggest issue is, will your building let you do it. Let's say you want to add a bathroom that will be above your neighbors bedroom, the board very well will NOT let you do it. That is usually called wet over dry. You also might not be able to do it depending on the circumstances of the building, do you have concrete floors?

As a contractor we try our best not to disturb our clients when they live in the space but it is never an ideal situation.

If you want prices I would be happy to come take a look with my architect at no charge
