Discussion about
Anybody have any problems with bedbugs when moving? Have there been any stand-out moving companies either being extremely cautious or utterly indifferent on this issue? Thanks.
Great question.
How long before coop boards reject someone based on someone coming in from a building with bedbug history.
Is it a matter of time before we have bedbug free certificates as a requirement? Services that spray down moving boxes and furniture?
It's the moving van quilts and padding that spread the bedbugs.
All that fabric, all those moves, touching all that stuff . . .
Here's a discussion about bed bugs

Moishe's told me that for an additional $300 they'll exterminate the truck the night before.
$300? If I were moving and the mover gave me bedbugs, I'd sue him. Then I'd blab it all over the internet and yelp.com and report him to 311.
All the movers need to realize extermination is the cost of doing business, before the lawmakers decide to make it a law.
nnedsadcice what good would that do you once you had an infestation. prevention.
I understand your indignation, needsadvice, but I'm prepared to pay an additional $300 for peace of mind. I'm not litigious by nature, and Moishe's seems well-reviewed and comparatively inexpensive (even with the additional $300). If you have a better suggestion, let me know.
he'd rather get the bedbugs then sue.
Bedbugs don't spread disease to human beings. And they don't charge more than one month's rent in fees either.
Does exterminating the truck also mean that they will wash all the padding and quilts the night before? I used Flat Rate - I asked about bed bug concerns, and they said they take every precaution, etc., etc. Not sure if that was just a song and dance, but I did not have any issues with the move...
Yes, omega, Moishe's indicated that everything gets exterminated. Glad to hear you had a good experience with Flat Rate, as we're considering them, too. I guess we can never know for sure.
I think it is pretty ballsy for them to ask you for money to ensure they do not infest your stuff
gcondo you are making the unwarranted assumption that they have bedbugs. tbe op wants assurance.
It should be a cost of doing business. Passing along the cost sucks.
so does absorbing it unnecessarily. why should they?
Insist that the movers wrap everything tightly in disposable plastic. The $300 extermination the night before sounds a bit like a racket to me--how do you know they're actually doing it and not just taking your money?
what if the bugs travel on the outside of the plastic? that stuff ends up all over when you unpack.
why not get roscoe the dog to sniff the truck and movers?
next stop: moving trucks become freezer trucks
