Discussion about
Very exciting news for UES. I was walking past the UES Fairway store yesterday and they were saying the store is opening Wednesday.

I think it's 86th bet 2nd & 3rd- the old Gristedes.
240 East 86th Street (at 2nd Ave)

I'm xcited. But the Westside Fairway is still great because of the surrounding stores. IMO, in spite of all the changes occurring on the E. 86 st corridor, B'way in the lower 70s still has better retail at this moment. But, no doubt the Eastside Fairway will flourish.

Personally, I find shopping at the UWS Fairway to be a stressful experience--it's always an utter zoo. Far prefer Citarella.

That's a bit of a trek from Sutton Place...i'll have to wait for Whole Foods opening, i guess. Grocery stores around here are just dismal.

Fairway in Harlem is the least stressful. Plus they have a parking lot.

Never been to a Fairway, I live in Chelsea. Is it Whole Foods-ish? Trader Joes-ish? Upscale? Funky? People are clearly excited, so there's obviously something to be excited about. Do tell.

Fairway used to be a great place to buy fresh inexpensive food. While they still have great produce prices are higher. They're trying to be a Dean & Deluca.

Its at the old barnes and noble next to the ex circuit city. Love fairway. It is going to give the other supermarkets a run for their money. I anticipate gristedes and maybe dagestino (84th & lex) really hurting. Maybe closing for one or more.

fairway on bway is madness. you have to go either heavily sedated, or on enough speed that no one in their right mind will even think about messing with you. that's of course optimistically assuming that even half the people in that store are in their right mind. because they aren't and they WILL bite your arm if go for that cheese they want or try to go ahead of your god given number at the fish counter.

No, you just have to take a number to file a complaint with the Health Department: Fairway insists on putting the cooked shrimp right next to the raw shrimp, usually touching.

i'm sorry, of course you're right. the deli counter has the numbers. at the fish you just have a bare knuckle brawl and the last few left standing can get their order.

Life is so much easier in Columbia County, NY. You just walk over to the Hudson, near the base of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, cast your rod, and wait until dinner gets hooked on the line.

Agree Fairway UWS is a zoo. Fairway Red Hook is the least stressful, and they have sale prices unlike the one in Harlem or UWS.
