Discussion about
I need to park my car in an indoor garage. I understand that the prices in Manhattan are around 500-600 per month and if you pay cash it is going to be around 300. But I would need to spend less; I need to pick up my once a month only. Thanks
find a garage broker. Monthlies vary from location to location. avg is about $250/month through a broker.
Most garages I see are around $400.00 per month. Where are you looking? They get cheaper the more east and West you go. If you don't use the car a lot and don't ming paring on 11th you can get good deals

I second the garage broker suggestion. We park an SUV in a prime neighborhood for $300.00 per month after help from the garage broker.
since you use it only once a month.... rent.
your cost of owning will be significantly more then if you were to rent. just like RE in this town.
Go to Long Island City. There is plenty of parking, and it is cheap. 7 train is very convenient. Other option is go north of 96th street.
PPP pls provide contact info
This site is a good resource http://nyc.bestparking.com/index.php
Can anyone recommend a broker?
If you only need it once a month and cost is a major concern, I would definitely look in the nearest outer borough. Renting is certainly an option too.
Our great price came from the NYC best parking service (site linked above). We told them where we lived and worked, but were flexible on location. They offered us two garages within 10 blocks of our apartment and several near my office at very attractive prices.
But if you are only going to use the car once a month, I also highly recommend ZipCar.
Do more than look online. The rates online may say $400 - $500 per month but when you actually call and talk to the company directly, the rates are much cheaper. Shop around and tell them the different offers you got. You don't need a "garage broker" for that!
I have never heard of a garage broker...can someone shed more light on this...
I park near Columbus Circle and pay under 300. All I did was call the major companies (ICON, Central Parking, etc.) and asked for their best price for monthly parking. The prices were nowhere near the prices posted at the garage.
Initially, I got a really cheap rate at the outdoor lot at 1 West End (under 200), but they ruined my car (it was so obvious they had to accept my claims - yes several claims - without question).
Now I park in an indoor garage and it is much better.
For such seldom usage, sell the car and rent when you need to. The cost of registration, insurance, parking, and wear and tear on your vehicle in Manhattan far outweigh the cost of renting.
FWIW, you don't have to pay a fee to the garage broker. They simply have an aggregated database of all the spots available/ rates.
NYC Best Parking doesn't seem to have great deals, most fall into the 400-500 levels...Would there be a better price if you called and spoke to a rep instead of the website listed prices?
Always call. What happens is they up the rates and so they can't lower them b/c then they'd have to lower it for everybody...so they will often give u a lower rate on the phone.
Can anyone give me the name for a garage broker?
Yes, try Google.

shah...we park over in Long Island City across from the courthouse. Great garage and the rate for our SUV is only $280 a month on a month to month basis since we are only here part of the year. Rate would probably be lower if we contracted for the entire year. right next to a subway stop also and since we live on the east side, only one subway stop ride for us.
Where do I find a garage broker?
Mario at Icon parking hooked me up with a couple of good deals over the years. 877 727-5464. I pay $325 for a big SUV in the Financial District. I think they're a bit cheaper around Midtown West. That's for indoor spaces, you can go cheaper with outdoor spaces. Icon takes credit cards, I'm not sure they even take cash. They were really good about keeping the information of what you were looking for, then calling when something came available.
The only issue with Icon was at their bigger garages it took forever to drop your car off and pick it up, even when you called with advanced notice. When I moved to a smaller garage, life was good, they always had the car ready and it was easy to drop off.
You also have to figure out the time tradeoff. If you barely use it, sure, go save $200.
If you grab the car every week or more, not having to hike across town... having flexibility to jump quickly...
Can someone share contact info for a garage broker?
