Discussion about
The worst contractor I've ever seen. Pretty much criminally bad and dishonest. EVERYTHING he and his awful crew did had to be redone within 6 months. And I mean EVERYTHING. That's after tricking a client into giving up vintage trimmings for $10 crap and using Home Depot as supplier. Uses company names Jomeb and Remodella.
Salut,
Out of curiosity did you call for references? Did you know he had more then one name for his company before you hired him
Per www.remodella.com, which has no useful info other than the Remodella and Jomeb doing-business-as names, they're in Fort Lee.
No Jose Luna, Jomeb, or Remodella at http://www.nyc.gov/html/dca/html/licenses/license_check.shtml
Bad sign, eh?
(Primer05 is properly licensed.)
Jose is licensed with the DoB, though: http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/LicenseQueryServlet?licno=38003&licensetype=G&go3=+GO+&requestid=0
How many licenses do you have to have?
Primer05, about the multiple names: no, I didn't know that. About the references, they checked out but it turned out that he did a very run of the mill work for them. The ting is, he came sort of recommended by a party — that gets kickbacks from him. It all unfolded gradually, and we're still in shock.
Apparently, it's a pretty smooth scam. ANy other people who dealt with him?
Here're some of his projects:
2011: 200 W 86th: INTERIOR RENOVATION AND COMBINATION OF APARTMENTS 2I & 3I
2011: 863 RSD: RENOVATION OF AN EXISTING TWO FAMILY DWELLING
2010-2011: 25 Sutton Place South: INTERIOR GENERAL CONSRTUCTION APT 3M,PARTITION AND PLUMBING WORK.
2009: 180 East End Ave: INTERIOR RENOVATION OF APT .20D
2008: 180 East End Ave: INTERIOR RENOVATION OF APT.11D
2008: 50 Sutton Place South: INTERIOR RENOVATION OF 21G
2007: 285 CPW: Apartment renovation to involve minor partition changes, kitchen fixtures
replacement and relocation, (Apt 7N)
You need one license for the company and one salesperson license. It is so easy to obtain a license. I would advise everyone to not only talk to references but ask the right questions. If you have time go to some projects that the contractor has recently finished.
I'm going through the same issue with my contractor named Michael Ponce of ADHome Improvements aka ADHI (based out of Clifton, NJ) $40k worth of work that ALL needs to be redone. I won a case against him with BBB but he still won't pay. Any idea what I can do to warn other potential clients from being scammed in the future, not to mention collecting the monies he owes me?
Hey Kevin,
Your best bet is contacting the Dept of Consumer Affiars. They might be able to help.
Hey Primer05 I've already done so and i still haven't heard back from them!
They are probably very busy. The biggest problem with my profession is that there are people who are fly by nighters and they can just close the company and open a new one. I hear these stories every single day.
NWT: Here're some of his projects:
2011: 200 W 86th: INTERIOR RENOVATION AND COMBINATION OF APARTMENTS 2I & 3I
2011: 863 RSD: RENOVATION OF AN EXISTING TWO FAMILY DWELLING
How did you find that out?

Bump
What are you bumping? NWT already answered your question.
Second Salut about Jomeb/Remodella/whatever else Jose LUNA might be using. Unfortunately, it's too late for my neighbor as they're already too deep with this guy. He is AWFUL and borderline criminal. The quality of his work is abysmal; and he himself is very close to extortionist. He's a smooth talker and "an architect" which may be true but still STAY AWAY. At my neighbor's place, the walls are left the wrong shade, the floors are finished with the wrong tint, no straight lines anywhere, the the sloppiest paint job ever, and a lot more.
"Jose can you see ..." is the Spanish version of our national anthem
But in fact, Jose should pounce like "jokes"
I just googled "caonima". Interesting.
As a result of Cheap Contractor,
I suspect too in some ways we all get what we pay for. Jose probably gives good deals that are too good to be true.
We jump at his offer because it is 50 percent that of the other quotes we got and then we are surprised to learn he is a charlatan or cowboy. This is probably the type of guy being referred to when it is said on SE by several that you can do a bathroom for 10K of paint a 2 bedroom for 1K or whatever. It will be hit am miss, sometimes will be a bargain, sometimes you will be scammed.
Sometimes you have to pay extra for security and comfort.
>Sometimes you have to pay extra for security and comfort.
Or better quality work.
