Discussion about
I wonder if it will turn out to be a political miscalucation. Shutting down the transit system will cost local businesses HUGELY. Nobody will be able to open the store because the employees can't get to work, and the customers couldn't come to buy stuff anyway. If the storm really wallops the city, then it will look smart. But ONLY if it's a bad hit will the shutdown appear to have been smart. In all other scenarios it will look foolish. And expensive. And bad for business. Think I'm wrong? Will nobody try to use it against Cuomo politically? Hope this turns into an entertaining thread since I can't go anywhere tomorrow anyway ;-(
Actually, the real question may be how the city expects emergency personnel to reach assigned areas with no public transport.
so penthouse lady:
you figure that the city didn't realize that it was shutting down public transportation?
Graffiti, what exactly do you think people will be shopping for today that they can't get after the storm on a normal day? Water? Batteries? What else is sustaining New York's economy in the last week in August?
Hey CC you crazy old coot. Maybe you should drive down to NY so you can really share the concerns of those of us who actually live here and are, and will be, going through this storm
Oh that's right - you're the crazy old coot coward..
is bloomberg going to take you up on your offer to run things?
ph41, make sure you bring in your potted plants. It would be a disaster if they went flying and went through someone's window. Like someone's shower window, while that person is showering during the storm. Crazier things have happened.
Not sure why it had to be noon. Why not 6 pm or 9'pm? Give people more time to evacuate.
the think the issue was how long it takes to shut down the whole system and put the trains in relatively safe places.
Washington has their trains running. That said, it's the weekend and it can't be a bad thing to encourage people to stay indoors.
All of a sudden the residents of columbia county, ny care about nyc's mta. We are so touched.
riversider: how close to Washington to the Atlantic Ocean?
"Actually, the real question may be how the city expects emergency personnel to reach assigned areas with no public transport."
Right. Because firemen and EMTs always take the subway on emergency calls ...
Right Matt, because every emergency worker owns a car to get to work, right? And of course in a hurricane, driving to work in a car, because there's no mass transit, is a really safe thing to do, right? Firefighters might be able to bunk in the firehouse, but what about all the I
other emergency workers?
are you kidding?
let it go, dumbo.
And there's CC again, the crazy old cowardly coot.
i'm not crazy.
and i'm not old.
and i'm not a coward.
you are however a pretentious wanna be cunt.
And there he is yet again, the crazy old cowardly coot - must be badly missing his pretentious wannabe friend AR. One would have thought he'd join her in her SE hiatus, just out of loyalty.
>and i'm not old.
80 is the new 65
>and i'm not a coward.
afraid of the window in your shower?
>i'm not crazy.
of course not, of course not
penthouse lady:
what do you actually know about me?
didn't she just spell it out?
1 crazy
2 old
3 coward
no he didn't. he wanted the message across that if the MTA closes, it's not a big deal. he'll use it to negotiate MTA pensions next time around.
> emergency personnel to reach assigned areas with no public transport
when you call 911 for an ambulance, do they run to take the 1st bus possible towards your house? if anything, 0 traffic means reaching you faster.
"Right Matt, because every emergency worker owns a car to get to work, right?"
Um, police stations and firehouses aren't banks, you know. They staff up for these sorts of things. People actually SLEEP there, go figure!
NYCMatt, did you body clock get messed up during this storm? Do you need money to compensate you for it?
