Discussion about
Buying into a new development and want to do some home automation. Was wondering what priorities I should look at to do before I move(assuming financially or logistically cant take the whole hit at once) and things I can take care of over time once moved in. For those with home automation, what do you tend to value (and use) the most? Things I am considering (in no order) are - automated blinds - recessed TV, speakers - multizone audio - recessed lighting - climate control - lighting control - other? Also does one see a great increase in energy bills with home automation, or does it save energy or is energy neutral ultimately?

Going through a similar thought process:

Climate control - presumable you mean ac. First thing I would do.
Recessed TV and speakers need to be down at the start as they decide the layout of the apartment and changes to to wall.
We decided against recessed lighting as we do not have any ceiling space but will do it first as well. In fact you do not necessary need recessed lighting as you can use flush mounts, hanging/floor lights.

Later:
Blinds can be done any time.

This thread is a great example of why we need HIGHER taxes. IF you can afford to splurge on such BS as automated shades, maybe you can afford to help reduce the deficit.

Are your automated shades manufactured in the U.S.? How do we know they are not made in a 3rd world country?

300, instead of automated shades, could you hire someone to move them up and down for you when you request? I figure, 3 shifts a day, 7 days a week = 21 shifts a week, assume that the shifts are manned by a union with strict work rules, so you'll need 3 people per shift, and 6 weeks vacation per year each person, so, well, the numbers aren't important, if you have money for automated shades, the Socialist American thing to do would be to go this route.
