Discussion about
Can anyone recommend an interior designer? Somebody not too expensive. Do they do flat rate fee, ie pay for a drawing design and I do the shopping?

Francois Tenenbaum- Design by Francois -www.francoistenenbaum.com

Interior designers can work a few ways depending on what the client wants:
1- Percentage of all construction costs of the job + of the furniture
2- if its just a drawing you want they will charge a fee per drawing- usually starts at $750 and goes up depending on specs- that will not get you any shopping- but the above will
3-If there is no construction and you just need someone to do a room for you they will likely charge you a fee for the drawing/design of the room and then a percentage of the furniture- but this is a wash a they get a trade discount which is typically what they charge you (usually between 20-35% of what was purchased)

anyone have any experience in changing the old linoleum type flooring in halls to something modern ? either a new type of solid flooring or a type of carpeting ? its a walk up building that also has an elevator so the foot traffic is most on the first and second floors.

I recently engaged an interior designer with the same plan in mind, but to my horror he kept insisting that I change the furniture to those that he had picked, totally ignoring my preferences for some of the pieces from the old home I would like to keep, not a good experience.
