Discussion about 80 Dekalb at 80 DeKalb Avenue in Fort Greene
I am interested in moving into a luxury building between Park Slope and Downtown Brooklyn and went for a tour of DKLB. It seems nice, but I would love to read some experiences from renters before I take the plunge. Most reviews online are from one or two years ago and it would be great to have something more recent to base my judgment on. Anyone on here live(d) there?

why don't you be a man and base the decision off of your being at the property?
We lived there. It was convenient and less expensive than the luxury buildings in Manhattan. What exactly do you want to know about it?
We moved out last year. What exactly would you like to know about the building?
I went and visited already. "...and went for a tour of DKLB" is a line in my first post. Looks can be deceiving, which is why I'm asking for experiences from people who have lived there.
anyone who bases their decision on something because of what they read on the internet, as opposed to what they see with their eyes is a pussy
Hi anwong, sorry for the late response. I wanted to know if you had a good experience living in DKLB. How were the appliances, and could you hear noise from neighbors through the walls? Was the management responsive to problems you had, if any? Thanks :)
No worries. The experience wasn't bad. The appliances were all brand new, so there were no issues with that. Do be aware that you do have to replace light bulbs yourself for the in apartment light fixtures. Not easy to find as some of them are special sized (I had to go to a specialty light store). I don't recall ever hearing noise from neighbors through walls, but I had some really good neighbors at the time. I can't say that I appreciated the newest neighbor that had moved in after one of my neighbors left. Smelly drugs is all I can say that affect, but you can always bring it up to whoever is sitting at the front desk and they will talk to that person about it. After I moved out, I know that the building was in the process of installing new a/c units with a digitally controlled thermostat. I'm not sure if that helped with electrical bills or not. When we lived there, our electric was pretty high for a "green" building. I account for the electric being high due to the huge A/C units that never stopped running unless you turned it off yourself. Be warned, the blinds and the window glass don't block out the heat of the sun. In all, I liked the people that I'd met and the people at the front desk are friendly and helpful. Management was fairly responsive to any maintenance problems I'd had. Hope this helps you out.
The Aluminum blinds installed are a good way of controlling the light but adding blackout or even solar shades would definitely help reduce AC bills. Although since its a rental you would probably have to order and install them (custom made) and take them with you when you leave
I have been here almost three years and love it. Anyone who complains is probably an uptight millennial or just spoiled rotten. Staff is great, location cannot be beat, and it's thick walls so I never hear neighbors. It doesn't have the amenities that other buildings nearby have, but if you rent an apartment in Brooklyn to hang out in your building, buy a house in Westchester.
Uhhh.... I think this is the kind of building that uptight millennials and spoiled rotten people move to.
As far as Fort Greene / Downtown Brooklyn, the location can absolutely be beat....... by living three blocks closer east into “real” Fort Greene.
It’s a stone’s throw from 80 Dekalb to the Downtown Brooklyn Applebee’s though, which unfortunately closed due to Covid.
It's one of the nicer rental buildings -- think Glenwood level, not Avalon -- but not quite up to snuff with the surrounding condos.
In ordinary times there would be a tradeoff to make: either pay more to rent a condo in a prime location, or stay at the DKLB price point while getting nicer amenities in a worse location like Oro / Toren. But with the current market, I'm certain you can find an condo owner willing to accept a lowball, even in the newest high-end buildings.
I like this building but the immediate area is kind of yuck imo.
Hi - I just moved into a renovated clean looking studio in this building that I think had been vacant for a bit and I've already sent multiple german cockroaches in the kitchen. And no, I didn't have roaches at my old place -- a three story building where I lived 6 years (!) and saw maybe three of those big water bugs ever during my time there during the summer. I've never ever seen or had these small roaches in nyc. I thought they were coming in through an opening under the dishwasher which the super closed up, but still saw several more after that living in the appliances. So, I'm pretty sure there's an actual infestation. The exterminator is coming today but these are so hard to get rid of. I imagine it's a total lie when the super acted all surprised and said they've never seen a roach in this building. They have the exterminator listed on call when you first move in. Should have been a sign. I've lost so much sleep over this and can't bear to live like this. Has anyone experienced this in the building and did it clear up at all?? I've only seen them by the kitchen but it's a studio so it's pretty small and I'm nervous!!
