Discussion about
Can anyone recommend a company to install an overhead light in a postwar Manhattan condo that's wired to do so? I have no handyman skills and the condo prefers that an insured company does it.

if there's no light, you need a licensed electrician and a contractor to cleanup/fix the holes lines that the electrician will make.

If it's all wired and you're either replacing an existing fixture or uncapping the junction box where one attaches, you can probably have your super do it ... it's an extremely simple task, assuming you don't have to bolt anything like a track to the concrete slab.

For anything more than that, I had very good results from http://www.leaderelectric.net/

What does your ceiling look like now? Sheetrock? Metal/plastic cover plate?

Along the same lines can someone recommend a company that can channel a solid ceiling and do the wiring so that I can hang a new light fixture. I believe the ceiling is concrete and it is over a stairwell. Also, does anyone have an idea of what this can cost? Thanks

Before investing too much energy, I'd make sure your building allows ceiling channeling. Many don't. Although the stairs thing makes it sound like it might not be a coop/condo.

I would think electricians do the channeling. Maybe give Leader a quick call (link in this thread).

Otherwise, of course, think ceiling drop / soffit.
