I'm going on Monday. The lobby is gorgeous - you can find it on google. There's also an open house on wednesday. I'm psyched!

I went to the open house. The space feels like a kind of studio you find in Paris, a palette for the furnishings and decor of the owner. Visiting it, you get a very strong sense of a lifestyle. In its present incarnation, it has a masculine persona. It would be interesting to see the feminine version. It gets a surprising amount of light. The kitchen, though compact, is well laid out. The “greenhouse” is charming and makes a lovely space for dining. Even though there is a lot of furniture, the apartment does not feel cramped. The main living area is carved up into three distinct spaces. A single larger room might seem more efficient, but it would be much less interesting, with fewer places to hang artwork.

As we guessed, the designated sleeping area is the bathroom/dressing room (with no attempt to hide the adjacent toilet.) But let’s be frank: This apartment doesn’t need a bedroom. That’s not the lifestyle. This is everyone’s dream apartment – not to live in, but as your secret hideaway across town, where you keep your other wardrobe, where you entertain your other friends, and where you are when no one can reach you.

roomwithaview: But couldn't you just take out the toilet, put in a full (or even a single) elegant daybed,and then have the tub next to the bed as in elegant hotels? Or am I being too simplistic? Could the dining area be used as a bedroom?????

I'm actually flying cross country to see this charming abode.

I've just had a few cocktails since I wrote my previous post. I really see your point about that apartment, however is if were to be a place for a wonderful, romantic tryst, where would one "do it?" The single bed is way too small. I guess you could do it on the living room floor. Pardon me if I seem a bit prurient here, but it IS so romantic that that's what comes to my mind!!!!

Was the bed still in the bath???? Also, your feeling that it has a masculine persona is accurate. If you see the article in the book I referred to ("Living Large in Small Spaces"), you'll see that it was a very sophisticated, older man with exquisite taste. He loved to entertain, and was more concerned with the flow of the place for parties then he was for such banal activities as sleeping. I have a feeling (I hope I'm wrong) that he passed away, because a lot of that artwork is in the present rendition, albeit with additions and deletions. I would think a person moving to a new place would take a lot of the things left behind. My God I'm obsessed with that place. Now that you tell me it has good light, I'm even more interested.

I have a feeling it will sell quickly, although the board of that building is said to be very difficult.

I went to it...it'd actually a bit smaller than the pictures make it seem. It is well laid out, but a bit cluttered. The furniture is very nice and there are great built-ins, but I'm not sure it all belongs in this space. Indeed, the bed is in the bathroom/dressing area and it's a pretty tight fit.

Broker said there had bee an offer but it fell through. There is a a little sliver of outdoor space even though the view is the wall of the building next door. But you still get a nice little pocket of light and it really is the greenhouse dining area that brightens up the space.

All in all, I really like it, but it's quirky and not for everyone.
