Discussion about
When buying a commercial grade high-high end stove, is it important to purchase a self-cleaning model for resale value for the apartment ? The self cleaning model costs $800 more than the non-self cleaning model. I want to know if the typical commercial stove installed is self cleaning. (Commercial ranges in restaurants are not self-cleaning) Thanks

I have had two non-self leaning Wolfs, and a couple of self-cleaning wall ovens. Perhaps I'm lazy, but haven't cleaned the present one for 7 years. And my next range will be self-cleaning. What I'm not sure is what it might say to someone WITHOUT experience of owning a non-self cleaning.

Honestly, how hard is it to wipe up spills right after they've happened?

Is that a brand?

Would a buyer even notice? The stove should last your tenure in the place, so the $1,000 might be worth it to you if you anticipate hours of cleaning per year.

I'd skip the self-cleaning, as being just something else to go wrong.

Here're identical Vikings with/without: http://www.ajmadison.com/product/compare/?skus[]=VGCC5366BX&skus[]=VGSC5366BX

If you can afford one of these, you have a housekeeper who does the cleaning. So while they may appreciate the self-cleaning, you aren't doing it either way, so it doesn't matter that much to many people.

Weird how the $6K stove has become expected here in NY. It's as if a standard useful appropriate stove would be unworthy of our RE prices, so pissing away an extra $5K for no extra function is OK.

For a real commercial-grade stove, just get a $1K Garland. Twice the BTUs per burner (not that anybody'd really crank it up) and you get authentic I'm-a-serious-cook cachet, if your affectations run that way.

It's not the standard, One can purchase for a fraction of the price an architect series range from Kitchen Aid and it won't hurt the value of an apartment one bit. Plus the reliability of Wolf & Viking are up for discussion.

My Wolfs have performed flawlessly. But good heavens, they are not the standard. As far as the housekeeper, different people find value and place priorities in different places. We enjoy the range daily and have no housekeeper. And a Garland would be massively illegal. But my next range will have more power than the Wolf up top, and have self-cleaning. Just my humble opinion and personal choice.

I paid $10,000 for my huge Wolf gas stove with gas ovens (didn't have enough electrical for electric ovens). i positively love the things but was dumbfounded when i realized (remarkably not blond at the roots) they were not self cleaning ovens. The first thanksgiving i spilt a whole pan of sweet potatoes with marshmallows all over the inside. remnants are still there despite my cleaning prowess and my husband's efforts. i would have so preferred self cleaning which i have had for so many years in so many places and have taken for granted.
