Discussion about
Replacing a 30" Subzero built-in refrigerator. The only other possible replacement is a Liebherr 30" due to dimensions of the cabinetry. I'm leaning toward the Liebherr. Any expereinces out there to suggest otherwise? Cost differential is $3300. Thanks in advance.

I have the Liebherr 30" with custom panel fronts. Unlike the Subzero, the panel fronts break the plane of the 30" width when the door is opened and so you need to account for it... meaning you can't get a truly seamless look... either the fridge needs to be pulled out an inch or two in front of your other cabinetry or you need to leave an inch or two gap between the fridge door panel (on the hinge side) and the cabinet face next to it. Tough to explain in writing. This is all probably not an issue if you're going with the normal stainless steel door fronts.

I've also had a bunch of problems with the freezer door not shutting properly but I suspect that has to do more with the original install when the door fronts were removed.

If I had to do it over I'd still go with the Liebherr for the cost savings but I'd probably forget the custom panels.

Thanks Jason. Very helpful. I will be using the factory provided stainless steel finish..

I installed Liebherr 30in in an apt several years ago and I loved the look, feel, and utility. Never had a problem with it. I've never had Subzero so can't compare directly but I can certainly recommend Liebherr. But they are expensive.

oldgreyhair,

I have installed many Liebherr's and my clients love them, never heard a bad thing about them.

subzero.. i know there is a significant price difference (i have had both).. i can't stand the liebherr freezer.. all the plastic pullouts incredible waste of space. and also the liehberr always seems to have condensation in the fridge .. was told it's normal
