AMT and mortgage interest

We are growing our family and are running out of space in our one bedroom apartment. My current mortgage is about $400K on the one bedroom apartment. Does it make sense for me to upgrade to a two bedroom, and take on a $1million mortgage? My income bracket is snared by AMT, so since AMT allows for mortgage interest (and charitable deduction), I thought it makes sense to upgrade as effectively it should cost less if I factor in mortgage deduction.
