Discussion about
How are near-by residents reacting to the closure of this huge lot? Where do you park now? And how do residents in 10 West End Avenue feel about the river view going away?
What's not to like?
Looks like construction is in full swing. they had 4 or 5 heavy construction vehicles working simultaneously.
I believe full disclosure was given by the marketing staff at 10 WEA regarding potential building sites. One of the very few properties I looked at where salespeople proactively addressed the issue.
AR, I'm surprised you looked in that area - both based on the lack of NY personality of that area, and of the orientation of the new condos there to people who don't know better unlike you.
I personally think an educated buyer knows what's available, and with what financing products specific to the properties available, in a number of different neighborhoods, of varying objective and subjective value. We have never considered Staten Island, but we have looked at most Manhattan neighborhoods south of 145th (although not East Harlem) from Central Harlem to the Financial District in the early days when a lot of the stock was coops. We've also seriously looked in Riverdale, numerous neighborhoods in Brooklyn, a few in Queens, and back in the early days even Jersey City.
Did I ever move to those places? No, but I have always known what I could get at different price points if I were to need to make compromises. I'm a downtown Manhattan kind of person, but the lack of decent housing stock at just about every price point and the erosion of the "NY personality," as you put it, forced me to move elsewhere. I'm extremely glad I did, and I don't think it's just confirmation bias.
Looks like the West Side got a little grander today.
