Running cable wire in pre-war apartment

Discussion about
We recently purchased a 3 bedroom pre-war apartment on the upper west side and found that there was no cable run into the bedrooms. We don't want time warner coming in and doing a staple gun job along the floorboards. Rather, we would like the wire corked down in the picture moldings, so that it blends in as much as possible. This seems like this is too small a job for most good contractors. Does anyone know of a good handyman or contractor that you would recommend for something like this? While they are at it, we have a handful of other smaller jobs we'd like done (TV mounts, ceiling fans, etc.).

What makes you think TWC won't run the cable behind the picture molding?

You'll need to plan the course in advance and argue with them as they go, so they don't do anything stupid. And be sure they tack neatly when running through (for example) closets.

Alan, although I have heard you can work with (push) TWC to do more of a custom job, I don't think there's any way I can get them to do the job I'm looking for. Mainly, I don't want staples used to secure the wire. Plus, I want the all of the holes that get drilled plugged up and painted as much as possible once they're done. I started explaining this to the last TWC installer that was at my apartment and the guy told me that I needed to hire a contractor.

Years ago, faced with a TWC installer who wanted to do an exceptionally stupid run, I proposed that instead he leave so that I can make a Presidential complaint to TWC. He (an independent contractor) suddenly saw my point about how the job should be done.

But if you're past the point of working with TWC, your best bet is to ask your building's superintendent if he or a staffer will do the job. Next best bet, ask if he knows a nearby superintendent who will. Next, ask local hardware stores for handyman recommendations.

This is a job most decent superintendents can do. Check with yours.

I can do that, but only solution is that you have to make holes in the wall and repaint them...
