Does a 1br really need a bath tub?

Discussion about
Friends of mine (young couple, don't plan to have children) are looking at a one bedroom. They both prefer the idea of a step-in shower (as opposed to a shower/tub) and were told that replacing a tub with a shower would lessen their resale value. Any opinions here?

I probably should have searched this before I posted... Sorry, everyone.

Bath tubs are not just for children. Even in studios, a large soaking tub can be a real asset. There is nothing I would enjoy more than soaking in a hot tub. Unfortunately, I can't fit in one. But tomorrow is another day.

Andrew, why has it taken since early 2009 for you to start posting?

I personally hate tubs. I really hate those bathtub showers. No space, and the shower curtain flies in and wraps around you. And if it has sliding doors, they get moldy. Ewwww. So if I were a buyer, a walk-in shower would be a major plus factor.

We have two bathrooms in our apartment, one has a walk-in shower, and the other has the yet-to-be-used tub. Guests always ask to use our walk-in shower.

I understand the popular opinion is to have the tub. This is why I like to officially stand up and say "let's hear it for the walk-in shower!!"

Since the post was deleted by streeteasy and/or at the poster's request, it really wouldn't be appropriate to specifically identify which Andrew crazily posted about me and others (ahem, ahem), so therefore I really can not answer your question. I'm sorry.

Though for Hurricane Sandy, I did use my tub to fill it with water which was helpful during the week long power outage.

huntersburg: I missed that whole posting segment.
Sounds like the one you mentioned meeting on the Rushmore discussion.

Maybe that Andrew was sentenced to doing community service.

Tubs have zero value to me as well... I'd prefer a walk-in shower & get a little space back. That's just me.

For resale I'd say a bath-tub is always better.. Personally I'd like just a walk in shower also, but the general rule of thumb is you want to appeal to the masses. While it might be a 'plus' for some to have a walk in shower, its a show-stopper for others. If they plan to live there for 7+ years tho, they can always just reno it back.

for a 1 br I strongly advised to keep the tub. during my apt search I automatiaclly nixed places without tubs. Glad I did - at one time i had major leg pain and had to take epsom salt baths every night. Also nice to relax at the end of a day. just my HO.
