AnonymousUser, you are correct. I wonder why she is selling? She only bought it a couple of years ago. I remember there was a lot of talk about it. She certainly can afford the maintenance since she makes, according to the press, in excess of $35 Million per year. She could probably afford to buy the whole building. There was an episode of Selling New York that featured the building, and the owner of one unit said the floors were not very thick and that noise was an issue unless you were on a corner. Can you imagine being told by Judge Judy to turn down your opera recording? I'd LOVE to tell her where to shove it, and it's where the sun don't shine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha. Yes Riccardo, I was also surprised to see it relisted since she bought it only 3 years ago. This, to me, is the most beautiful building in NYC. However, I do agree that, for such an astounding location and architectural icon, the units are a bit subpar - they're small and poorly proportioned. And despite the hotel services, maintenance is obscene (although I'd change my mind if room service from Cipriani's meant free meals!).

By the way, a few months ago we started a back'n'forth about the ground floor studio at 1016 Fifth. Did you ever get in to see it? It's amazing, but there's too much junk in there - a lot of random artwork that doesn't work for the space. While the maintenance ($903) is low for the area, I still think it's a bit high for the apartment.

Hello AnonymousUser!!! Yes, I not only saw it several times, but was seriously considering buying it. Even though I'm all about views (would rather live in a small place with a big view than a big place with no or small view), I loved the space and rationalized that since I am a serious night time person, the lack of view and light wouldn't matter. Glad I didn't follow through. What I LOVED about the space was the rather large outdoor space. I had my broker ask the board if I could put plants out there if I promised not to have any parties there. They emphatically denied the request, saying it was a fire escape and nothing could go out there and I shoudn't go out except in an emergency.

SO when I returned 2 months later and a deal had fallen through, the broker told me that the board had reconsidered and that I could put plants out there as long as they were strictly on the perimeter. I was excited and ready to make an offer, but then I explored the area, and was disappointed in the lack of shops and services. When I asked the doorman where people bought their veggies, he said "the butlers shop." LOL. I considered that I could take the many 5th Avenue buses down to 23rd or 14th, but that seemed a hassle. And realistically, I'm not an Upper East Side type of guy.

Did you consider purchasing it??? By the way, have you looked at the 1-bedroom at 45 Fifth Avenue? With a lot of renovation and innovative decoration, it could be really fabulous. But alas, no doorman and a "live-in super" who was unavailable four different times. Red flag, eh???

I'm still looking, and I know the right place will come up for me. I was down on New York for awhile, but like a perfect lover, I can't stay mad at the city for long!

Thank you for remembering me. There are a lot of people on this forum who are very mean to me. But I guess that's New York, eh??

Sorry about that. Yes, I've occasionally found that people trying to make conversation here get bombarded with a lot of smartass comments, but not too often.

No I def. didn't/couldn't consider it b/c of finances, but it is without a doubt the most unique studio I've ever seen. I'm also not an UES type of person even though the buildings on 5th are unmatched. But then again, I also don't mind the walk. :-)
