Discussion about
People who leave carts in elevators expecting the next resident who uses an elevator to bring it to the lobby. What's up with that? Seriously.

Sounds like you live in a low class building.

On the contrary. I find the behavior most prevalent on people who have a exaggerated sense of entitlement. It's fairly common amongst renters in the better buildings, but it can be seen in owners too.

I have only seen this type of behavior in buildings which are very badly kept up, and where the people who live there don't have a sense of a nice building. I have NEVER seen this in a high-end (or even a bit upper class) building.

What kind of building allows residents to act as their own carters? Was your building staff on strike?

How much does a single elevator ride consume in electricity costs? (Genuine question; I can't calculate it.)

I could imagine energy-saving-obsessed elderly co-op board members *requiring* that carts be left in the elevators and then brought down by the next person, so as to avoid an extraneous trip down, and then back up, just to get the cart back down.

If I were co-op Prez, I'd require anyone using a cart to use the stairs. Elevators are for passengers and pets only.

Anything larger than hand luggage or a sack of groceries should be brought up the service elevator by the porter.
