Discussion about
I have been looking at places in williamsburg, parkslope, brooklyn heights, carroll gardens and downtown brooklyn for our growing family and there is no good inventory or they cost as much as in Manhattan!!! Any suggestions on other neighborhoods we can look into? We need a safe, family friendly environment for our two under 5 kids but do not want to move to the burbs (yet).
Forest Hills, Queens. Of course.
You can try Greenpoint, which is super nice and chilled, albeit with less than ideal transport. But even here brokers are starting to (unrealistically) ask for the moon.
anyone know of any new developments on the horizon that are affordable or at least some what reasonably priced?

LOL
Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights are the neighborhoods of choice when priced out of Manhattan, This isn't new so good luck. Those other neighborhoods, if you lie them, great, but they are not what people view as first choice Brooklyn real estate.. at least for Condos & Brownstones.
Probably the ONLY bargain left.
Not all will agree, but I feel it's worth a look.
Good Luck in your search.

Try Vandeveer Houses on Foster ave and Nostrand !!
Good Lord...Vanderveer Estates, now known as "Flatbush Gardens", which, as we know all too well, is still plagued with problems. Please don't send ANYONE there, all kidding aside. Their promo video is a latter day version of the Potemkin Village hoodwink, which must be seen to be believed (make that NOT to be believed).
Meadowwood (yes; formerly Fairfield Towers), on the other hand, seems to be a success story thus far.
Thankfully it's not a fair[field] comparison. And you have the Olive Garden...& STAPLES!
Now now...don't be jealous...
bluerain, Forest Hills is not a bad idea. Depending on where you work in Manhattan. For my job, its actually faster door-to-door than anywhere in Brooklyn by subway. And you can get actual, fully detached houses. But it only works well if you work along the F or E or R, and mid-town.
MIBNYC - I forgot that I (jokingly) recommended Flatbush Gardens a few days back in another thread - but I think YOU remembered! LOL!
"Priced out of Manhattan" may have been the case a few years ago. The difference today is that people are choosing to live in Brooklyn over Manhattan because it's a preference. My sister and husband are moving back to NYC from London. They are looking in Brooklyn Heights. They would prefer to live in a property like 30 Henry than in Manhattan. Many others have similar preferences, hence the increase in prices. Various posts like this indicate Manhattanites are being priced out of some parts of Brooklyn.
Love Flatbush Gardens! Not to live there of course.

LOL! Just gotta love the guy in the video - could they have gotten a more corn-fed, Iowan looking sap? Does he actually believe everything he's gushing about (I guess if they paid him, he could!) And the implication that it's in close proximity to Manhattan is nothing short of astounding. Wake up, Mr. Iowa: "Target" isn't just a store at the Junction.
The best is when he says "it gives us something to build on."
Sure - that is, if he survives there long enough to do so!
@ Walrus ... they should have thrown a SHOPPING CART from the roof just like they did in the 90's and 2000 during that taping to show the REAL FLATBUSH GARDENS !!
WHY IS CALIFORNIA SO EXPENSIVE?!!!
I have been looking at places in Malibu, Bel Air, and Beverly Hills for our growing family and there is no good inventory!!!

You can try Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens - there are a couple of neighborhoods that lie between Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope. If you'd like some assistance (I am a realtor) you can reach me at yahoo.
MIBNYC - LOL!
Just imagine it hitting him on his head, knocking him to his senses, & looking straight at the camera, exclaims, "WTF AM I DOING HERE?!? BOOK ME ON THE NEXT FLIGHT TO PODUNK...NOW!!!"
Goodbye Ghetto Brick Road...
Matt - The former Fred Sanford house just went on the market in Watts.
As you may recall, it sits on a fairly decent sized lot, the junk of which is included in the sale. All interior furnishings are being thrown in as well.
It's definitely something worth considering. If interested, please contact the exclusive agent, AuntEsther@watchitsuckah!net. And hurry!
Matt channeling me.

I'm confused.
Prices are still falling right?
ah walpurgis, walpurgis, walpurgis...
Good Evening, Truth - welcome back! Sorry if I let the secret out on the Sanford Estate!
walpurgis: you have fans in Austin, Texas.
Wow...really? Don't know if I should be delighted - or scared! But please tell them many thanks - I really appreciate their appreciation!
walpurgis: No need to be scared of music industry people. Some live in Austin, others visit for a few weeks.
Just kidding, of course! Besides, I used to own & play a Minimoog (NOT professionally!) I'm sure you must remember those. Classic!
walpurgis: you were the Brian Eno of the minimoog.
I wish!
Ditmas Park- great value and a beautiful neighborhood. A hidden gem in brooklyn. Forrest Hills and Forrest Hills Gardens are nice too. I'm sure there are more but outside of those areas you mentioned, these immediately come to mind.
Bay Ridge; prime area bordered by Bay Ridge Parkway (75th Street) to the North, Ridge Boulevard (2nd Avenue) to the East, Fort Hamilton (the actual Fort itself - not the eponymous Parkway) & beautiful Shore Road to the west. The area sits on high ground, with spectacular views from he private homes, co-ops & condos lining Shore Road of lower New York harbor, the Verrazano Bridge, Staten Island & Manhattan. Definitely worth checking out!
@ Walrus ..now I know you hang out at the Salty Dog
LOL! I probably would if I still lived there. Left Bay Ridge for Murray Hill in 1996; 1st time Manhattan apartment, & the longest I've lived in any of them.
Geographically speaking, I simply went from a ridge to a hill...there may a be a potentially good song parody of "View to a Kill" there.
Oh, & I just LOVE the "@ Walrus" you've bestowed upon me. Thanks!
walpurgis: "Coo-coo-a-choo".
