That's a broad question. What kind of advice are you looking for? Kids? Commute? Etc...

OMG -- What is this, the 3rd time this question has been asked this month? Too many priced-out parents from Manhattan and Park Slope have been asking about Forest Hills lately. Prices are going up and Manhattan real estate firms have been muscling out our old mom and pop real estate offices. I was in a diner this morning and witnessed an Elliman broker pep rally.

Forest Hills is unlikely to change and become the upper west side anytime soon. Are you at all familiar with Forest Hills or Queens in general? Sorry to be a downer but I like things the way they are now. You might be happier in LIC or Astoria, which is quickly becoming Park Slope.

Before you decide, go walk around the hood at night so you see what characters are out there.

FH is nice especially if you have a couple of millions for some of the huge houses there. Most of the apts are older, pre war, 6-7 stories. But you do get high ceilings and cheaper groceries than the city.

Depends if you are going house or apartment.
Forest Hills Gardens hills gardens is quite nice, and is not a product available in Manhattan.
As far as the apartments, not bad, but the commute and parking situation will have you questioning the savings.

Forest Hills has a lot going for it. It's not exactly a hidden gem anymore. A fairly safe and quiet neighborhood if you compare to some of the so called gentrifying neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Not to mention a much shorter commute to midtown compared to Brooklyn. As far as compared to Astoria and LIC, it's quieter and a lot less gritty, a mature neighborhood with lots of conveniences compared to LIC which can feel desolated at night time in certain pockets. FH is definetely a solid option for Bk families priced out of Park slope.

thanks, will be a single parent soon and was hoping to get a 3 bedroom with a decent commute to NYC. Forest Hills Gardens seems to expensive. Spent a weekend in Forest Hills and liked it. Prices are very high though, it may be too expensive for me.
Thanks for all the

Don't really know FH, but have been told that they have some really good public elementary schools, something which may not be true of some of the new hip parts of Brooklyn or LIC.

commute to midtown is ok.
commute to downtown starts to really get on your nerves after awhile.

the trains really aren't as bad as they used to be tho in the 90's.
Used to be so crowded on roosevelt avenue if you took a local from 67(forest hills) to transfer to the express that you'd have to box out just to get position for the next train b/c u have no chance for the first one.

Trains are still okay at the express stops. The locals are running less frequently. If you are not getting on the train at Continental, it will take much longer than it used to. Commute on the express lines to midtown is fine. Downtown less so, UWS kind of tiresome after awhile. The LIRR is at Continental, but the trains are stopping less frequently at the FH station.
