This building was not built in 1920, as Streeteasy says. According to posted signs, it was built in 1895, which would make sense, since it was created under the Old Law Tenements rule, which is: "Old Law Tenements are tenements built in New York City after the Tenement House Act of 1879 and before the New York State Tenement House Act of 1901." 222 East 27th and its adjacent buildings 220 and 218 East 27th St., could not have been built in 1920.

SE simply pulls the "year built" and "building class" metadata from the city. To see what the city has on this or any building, go to https://a836-propertyportal.nyc.gov/.
The city's data isn't reliable. E.g., it has the Dakota as 1900, when it's actually 1880-something. For some buildings, but not others, the year seems to be when a significant alteration was done. For some it seems to be some pre-computer assessor's best guess, written on a card and subsequently keyed in.
