I am in a new condo building that has been occupied for a little under one year. I, as well as, a few other neighbors have an issue with the gas cooktop flame going out randomly during cooking. If standing at the stove while it goes out, it is not a big problem. However if you step away and come back you notice the flame is out and gas has filled the room. We contacted our PM about the problem and they supposedly sent a plumber out to rule out a defect in the stove (however the plumber never visited my apt). The plumber does not believe the stove is a problem. Now we are waiting for the plumber to get an appointment with ConEd to check the building gas. My concern is that we went to PM with this problem in March and July is already here and we don't have a resolution. I am fearful that something awful could happen while we wait. What steps can we take to speed up the process. Should I be concerned or am I overreacting? Any insight would be helpful. [less]
If you smell gas call Con Ed and tell them you smell gas. This will get action.
What neighborhood is this in?
why do you care?
Probably a breeze, or strong updraft from mechanical ventilation. Or a simmer burner, which cycles on and off, but doesn't emit nonburning gas.

I'd be concerned. There is the potential for a big nasty explosion here. I'd call ConEd & tell them your problem. They should have an idea what the situation is.
Newer stoves have automatic valves to shut the gas off if the flame goes out. I'd read the manual first. If you didn't get a copy from the developer, it'll be online.
You should immediately report this to the ADL, as it sounds very much like yet another case of a stove sabotaged by a 3rd Reich sympathizer / assembly line worker.
I would seriously hold off on the arbeit macht frying of anything until the problem is resolved.
In the meantime, kick back & relax with a cigarette.
What's the worse that can happen? The 4th of July is almost here - may as well be ready!
if the oven has a "brain", i.e. electric panel for controlling things - the burner may have an electronic controller, which may be the issue.
Try turning off the circuit to the oven on your electrical panel for a minute, and then restarting.
What brand is it? some brands are notorious for bad boards - and there is no doubt that a new construction condo went as cheap-o as they could on appliances.
But you know, you are saying that the gas is still flowing after the flame is out... lol... and the plumber doesnt think this is a stove issue? What do plumbers know about stoves anyway?
It's not only this person but others in the building who are having this problem, too. I'd call ConEd ASAP & let them know. This is a potentially very serious condition. Gas go boom!
> I'd call ConEd ASAP
Your whole building's gas is liable to be shut and not turned on until the DOB and ConEd are satisfied, which can take a while. Which brings me back to my question above, what neighborhood is this in?
Building's at the corner of Brooklyn & Union.
I once heard about an aged groupie posing as a clientless publicist who gasses off incessantly.
