Discussion about
Why else would the Public Advocate need to get arrested to support a NYC issue? One of the mayoral candidates not named Anthony Weiner, or even Christine Quinn, was among the sixteen people arrested this morning during a protest to save Long Island College Hospital. It was Bill de Blasio, the very tall, hip "Park Slope liberal," who currently works as public advocate. We know this because his official Twitter account blasted this photo of the candidate in plastic cuffs to its 6,395 (and rising!) followers with the message, "Taking a stand to keep community hospitals in New York City open." Yes, it is much more admirable than a boxer-briefed erection, but no, it does not have the same viral potential. There's got to be a better way to get noticed.
do they have any real power or is just a figurehead of sorts to make the masses feel like someone is on their side? on a similar note I would like to know, seriously, about what a borough president does other than a cheerleader for their borough. This is a serious question because I really don't know.
Figureheads.
as useless as spending every waking hour posting nonsense on streeteasy?
