Interested in this neighborhood, but wanted to see if anyone had any feedback? I see the area is progressing in terms of bars and restaurants, but what about other amenities such as markets and gyms? Also interested in feedback on the building.

Excellent building. It might actually have a gym.. About two blocks from PS29. There is a Met grocery store on Henry St nearby, and a gym that is a few blocks away, off Columbia St. The area is generally a walk to the trains, but is also right next to Cobble Hill, Carrol Gardens, and the whole Brooklyn Bridge Park complex. Personally I really like that whole Columbia St Waterfront District area, but I'm also a big fan of BoCoCa in general.

the area is great. the walk to the train in the morning, up a major hill, especially in winter, is painful. if you time the union st or atlantic ave bus, then you have a more pleasant experience. if you want to eat out, you have the restaurants on Columbia and Carroll Gardens to choose. As for markets, most are so expensive, sans Met Food, that it's cheaper to eat out. I would treck to Trader Joes and take a bus or cab back to save a huge amount of money. 15 yrs ago the local shops were selling chicken breast at $7 per pound.

We kidding here?

You cross the MAJOR trench of the BQE to get to the building. THen you live next to it. Forget the noise, the soot is bad enough.

This is the opposite of great area.

Somewhereelse, I understand from other posts that you're not a big fan of Brooklyn in general. I love manhattan and really like Brooklyn, but its growing on me. Tiffany Place is really quite a lovely block, cobblestone and a few converted warehouses with lofts. I have seen a bunch of apartments on that street, including a few at the OP's 1 Tiffany Place (very nice, good layouts, great building) and a bunch at 29 Tiffany Place (some fantastic spaces there). Some I've seen were facing BQE and others are facing the water, which was quite nice.

There was a NYT article about the Columbia St Waterfront district- very popular with families. I'm not saying its the greatest area in the world, but if you are like me and want to live in BoCoCa, it is worth considering.

We live at 1 Tiffany and consider ourselves to be really lucky. It is a DOORMAN CONDO building with a GYM and children's playroom AND a shuttle to the downtown brooklyn subway that runs every 15 mins all morning and evening. The apartments are really spacious and the common areas have just been renovated. I knew from the moment I saw our 900 square foot apartment facing the BQE that this was home. No soot issues here and with our new windows the traffic noise is no more than it was in any other part of manhattan or brooklyn. The bonus is that here we have huge windows for light, 11 foot ceilings (on the first 2 floors), building staff that go out of their way to be helpful, and all of this in a converted 1860s factory with original beams and exposed brick on a beautiful cobble stone street. The neighborhood is awesome and growing everyday and a park space has already been aquired by the greenspace initiative and will run between Kane and Degraw on Columbia less then a half a block away.
