Discussion about
Which would you rather live on?
Riverside, Not even close.
I agree with Riversider.
Also Riverside Drive and West side in general are at higher elevation than the waterfront on the east side. Riverside park is also very nice.
westside is like the bizarro eastside
RSD without question. If you can find a river and/or park view apartment, all the better. Hudson River views are head-and-shoulders above any view over the east river. There is simply no comparison. And Riverside Park is, to me, preferable even to Central Park.
RSD for its abundance of pre-war architecture, access to a 50 block long green park and riverfront, elevation, peaceful feeling but proximity to the subway, and the beauty of its curves.
Riverside definitely...upper west side far more interesting than UES.

Riverside if below 110th or thereabouts... if you're talking about west side nosebleed section, MAYBE east end, depending on the block/neighborhood.

East End Avenue is only 11 blocks long.
E End is tumbleweed. Riverside- not even a discussion.
I lived on the West Side for 30 years and am moving to East End Avenue. Every room in my new place has an East River/Carl Shurz Park view from a high floor. I like the Hudson River views better. But I had to consider the price, size, views, noise, and congestion also. East End Avenue was a better deal for my criteria. The complex I saw with the best Hudson River views was at 5700, 5800, and 5900 Arlington Ave. in Riverdale (3 bedroom, 2 baths, large, enclosable terraces, river views from all rooms, under $600,000). The draw back was that it was like living in the suburbs and you need a car to get around. East End Avenue is a compromise: a bit like the suburbs, but close enough to shopping areas if you don't mind a lot of walking.
What's a prettier view: the East River Drive and Welfare Island, or the Miller Highway and New Jersey?
Neither; hands down it's Hell Gate with a drop-dead view of Hart Island. Nothing compares - absolutely stunning!
If price is not a consideration then Riverside Drive, if price is a consideration much better value on East End.
Please correct me if I am incorrect but the public schools for east end avenue are ranked higher than Riverside (at least from 80's to 100's). Also, you can more for your money on EE but it is far away from trains.
I think you are right abuoot the schools. The times ran a piece a few years back that apartments were cheaper. Also East End Avenue has a more gated community feel and might feel a little safer at night.
There's a rarely a better in every category and different people will rank attributes differently. To me access to the Central Park, Riverside Park, biking along Riverside Drive over the G.W. Hudson River views and the nicer all together feel tilt the scale. The East Side does have the shopping, restaurants and schools though.
The schools are better on the East Side, both public and private. There is a lot of new construction of schools in the E90's between York and 1st Aves. Three private schools have taken old commercial buildings for their expansion. (Trevor has a huge tower going up for their new high school building. Spence bought the Hertz space for a new gym complex. I forget which school is adding a division nearby.)
Hopefully, the Second Ave. subway will be completed one day to alleviate the train congestion. Meanwhile the Select bus running on 1st and 2nd Ave. is excellent. (It's certainly great if you're a Costco shopper!) The 86 St bus runs down York Ave for a bit helping with get to the Lexington Ave. trains.
We're taking a risk since EEA has a low elevation and can have flooding in certain areas. However, if EEA is flooded, it means the FDR flooded. The city has to do something to prevent that highway flooding due to it's heavy usage.
trash dump trash dump trash dump
Riverside has the sewage treatment center and like the trash dump coming neither smell on a hot day according to the city because they are fresh
RSD definitely
