Recently left one lincoln plaza (20 west 64th street) in lincoln center for a building a few blocks north and am much happier. I could no longer take the place as there was constant, but constant construction which made the apartment virtually unlivable for long stretches at a time. We've had the lobby closed for renovation forcing us to use the service entrance for several months and now the outside area, but more disturbingly since the building is very old the apartments around us and throughout the building are undergoing renovation all the time which means drilling from morning to night. Walls shaking, ceiling cracking etc. etc. We have a baby and the drilling constantly prevented her from sleeping, which made our lives much harder and the building was in our experience completely unhelpful. The average age of tenants seems to be north of 70 and while that sometimes has its advantages we have seen too many coroners picking up people who have passed along and that can be depressing...anyway, this should be a warning to buyers or renters, who might also be disturbed by these issues. Door people are very friendly and helpful..this should in no way replect on them; they have no ability to control construction. [less]
If the ME's office is calling, I believe that means there is a suspicion of anything but natural causes.
Not necessarily, HB, the coroner is involved any time there is an "unattended" death...i.e. no physician present to pronounce death and its presumed cause. I believe that some hospice employees are also authorized to pronounce death but if no one is there but the dead person, it usually means an ME investigation even if the person was 90 years old and known to have terminal cancer.
