My husband and I recently contracted with a firm here in NYC to renovate our small bathroom (5x7) in a Prewar buidling. We paid a deposit toward the labor cost to replace wall and floor tile, toilet, sink, vanity, tub, all new fixtures, etc... Labor, not including materials was around 20k. We submitted the plans to the co-op and received a hefty amount of "Additional Building Requirements" including replacing branch piping to the riser, new shut off valves, new swing check valves, new vent line, waterproofing wall and floors, and soundproofing floors. The estimate the contractor gave me for these additional elements is $18,000. That seems excessively high. Can anyone comment on similar situations and estimates received? If this in line with expected NYC prices? Any insights are much appreciated! [less]
