Discussion about
I am purchasing a condo with my girlfriend (both our names will be on the property). Would it cause any problems if I get homeowner insurance only under my name? The reason I am asking is that she already owns a house in her name which had a big claim recently..
You won't be able to do slip that one by. Condo ownership is public information and the insurance company will certainly check. I don't know what you mean by "big claim," my lifetime biggest was $80,000 payout from Allstate (thanks Allstate). It's not just the size, it's the details; that one cost me nothing in future premiums. If claim wasn't really GF's fault, it might very well have no effect. BTW an insurance BROKER is advantageous, I use Gotham Brokerage Co Inc and am very happy.
