careful movers

Discussion about
So prior threads here recommended Moishes Movers, but their recent reviews on Yelp are really bad, with complaints that you can be assigned a random sub contractor, sub par crew. We need careful decent local movers for a relatively simple move -- don't want to overpay just to get a fancy brand name. We had a horrible horrible experience last year when we moved long distance to NYC with a national moving company. Recommendations?

Moving Men, Inc. I tried them and was very happy with their work. There were absolutely no surprises, no subcontracting, and no overages. They were very careful with some expensive items.

I recommended them to some others who were very happy. One involved moving a business with heavy equipment and a rickety elevator. They were top notch, even when they couldn't fit things in the elevator and had to walk them down 3 flights of stairs.

Rway was excellent. Fast, careful, and fair. My only complaint is that their management claimed to answer emails. All issues were resolved in my favor, but it took old-fashioned phone calls.

Their corps of ex- and moonlighting firefighters were entertaining, too.

Check out the website citymove.com. You list the details of your move and different moving companies bid on getting your business. There are reviews of the movers and info about credentials. I had an excellent experience with MF Movers. I figured with a name like "MF" they'd better be good, because the jokes just write themselves.

Agree that flat rate is pretty good. I also used college educated movers back in the day when I was renting.

Rainbow Movers - used them three times and friends have used them another 3-4 times over a period of about 12 years. Excellent, reliable and not super expensive. I would have used them for my interstate move, but they don't do long distance, so they referred me to another excellent mover who did my move to NC. Can't go wrong with Rainbow.

NYC Green Line Movers. Just used them. Excellent service. Tip issue is true (read Yelp reviews).

The tip issue is a problem with a lot of the moving companies. Burly guys take advantage of people in compromised settings through false demands and intimidation.

I've used Big John's for both moving and storage! Easy to deal with, efficient, pleasant and reasonably priced.

I recommend to my clients to use FlatRate Moving, BetterMove and Arthur Werner and they have all been super happy!

I've had a good experience using TaskRabbit for this. Not dirt cheap, but reasonable, and their people seem efficient, wanting to get things done and move onto the next job rather than extorting you.

I ended up using AllStar Movers -- not cheap, but they did a fabulous job -- highly recommend them....
