Placing permits and work in progress signs

I am starting a gut renovation of a 1 family townhouse, I have received my permits and I'm putting up the fence and the sign as specified in the building code section 3301.9.3.1. However, as I walk around the neighborhood I notice that the fence signage for other projects on similar buildings includes just the permits and a large sign identifying the contractor doing the work. I wonder if I'm doing more than necessary, or whether the other projects are not displaying their signs to comply with code. Does anyone here know what the deal is on fence signage?
